Blog Tour: No One Ever Has Sex on Holiday by Tracy Bloom

Today is my day for the blog tour

No-one Ever Has Sex on Holiday
Get ready to enjoy your first holiday abroad with small children. Highlights include: being woken at 5 every morning and working a gruelling day in 30-degree heat chasing kids around the pool with a bottle of sunscreen. Added features: screaming during mealtimes and toddlers moaning about sand. Absolutely no sex guaranteed or your money back!
Katy and Ben and their four closest friends are going to Spain for a week with their kids. Sun, sex and sangria? Almost certainly not.
The couples think they are prepared for all the joys and trials a family holiday has to offer but they have a shock coming, and not only from the kids. Into their first day by the pool crashes Ollie, who has just been dumped by his girlfriend, and Cassie, on her hen party holiday but having serious doubts about her impending marriage. A recipe for a relaxing week abroad? Let’s wait and see…
From the no. 1 bestselling author of No-one Ever Has Sex on a Tuesday, this is the perfect book to read on the beach – either with or without small children. Perfect for fans of Nick Spalding, Marian Keyes and Gill Sims.

                            MY REVIEW:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
When I first started out reading this book I did not think I was going to like it or any of the characters but I was wrong. Going on holiday with your kids and friends and their kids and wanting to be able to relax and sit and read or just to have fun did not quite happen as planned. Katy and Ben decide to have their friends and kids join them to Spain and get tickets for a budget flight , which they find out why lol. But decide to spend more of the money on the hotel. The bedrooms are not what they expected so that starts off not well. Then they meet up with Ollie who is there on his non honeymoon since his fiance broke up with him 3 weeks before the wedding. Abby doesn't seem to be happy to be there with her husband pr their child and so that makes things difficult and they meet a group of women, on the plane, for a girls week bachlorette party. So Katy, Abby and Daniel get sucked into partying with them. This book had me shaking my head at some of them and laughing at other things. I had not read any of the other books by this author and may have to read a few.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for letting me review.

Book Review: Once Upon A Bad Boy by Melonie Johnson

Once Upon a Bad Boy (Sometimes in Love, #3)

NEVER SAY NEVER
Sadie Gold is ready to take her career to the next level with the role of a lifetime. Finally, she can shake her reputation as a pretty face with more wealth and connections than talent. But Sadie is not prepared for the wild turn her own life is about to take. The man in charge of training Sadie for her most demanding role yet is none other than her first real boyfriend—the one who took her heart and ran away.

WHEN IT COMES TO LOVE
Bo Ibarra is as good-looking and irresistible as ever. Maybe even more so, now that everything once worked against them—Sadie’s pampered and privileged upbringing and Bo’s childhood in a family struggling to make ends meet—is in the past. But the future is still unwritten…and getting there, together, means coming clean about painful secrets and slashing through nasty tabloid rumors while trying to control the attraction that crackles between them. Maybe it’s finally time for them to walk off into the sunset and into a true and lasting love?

                         MY REVIEW:

Once Upon a Bad Boy (Sometimes in Love, #3)Once Upon a Bad Boy by Melonie Johnson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Sadie Gold is an actress and wants to make it big time and prove that she can make a life on her own. She was raised with wealth and everything that it entails.
She had a broken heart on prom night but now 11 years later he comes back into her life. Bo Ibarra is a stunt coordinator and is working on her film. She can not forget the past with him and he never got over her. But she has a secret that could ruin things as they start getting close again. Then the media gets a hold of her and makes things look bad as well.
I loved this storyline and now Sadie and Bo want to see if they have something again. Her grandmother pretty much made her the person she is because her parents never had the time for her and used their money and prestige.

Book Review: Look Alive Twenty-Five by Janet Evanvich

Look Alive Twenty-Five (Stephanie Plum, #25)

There's nothing like a good deli and the Red River Deli in Trenton is one of the best. World famous for its pastrami, cole slaw and for its disappearing managers. Over the last month, three have vanished from the face of the earth, the only clue in each case is one shoe that's been left behind. The police are baffled. Lula is convinced that it's a case of alien abduction. Whatever it is, they'd better figure out what's going on before they lose their new manager, Ms. Stephanie Plum.

                          MY REVIEW:

Look Alive Twenty-Five (Stephanie Plum, #25)Look Alive Twenty-Five by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Stephanie is a bounty hunter and things never go right for her. This time she is also told to manage a deli. Every manager that gets hired ends up missing when they go out to the dumpster. Leaving behind 1 shoe. So Ranger puts one of his guys on duty to be her bodyguard but then one of them ends up missing. Morelli is not a part of that case but ends up helping out. Lula says it is an alien abduction lol.
What we also see is how Stephanie deals with her sexual attraction with both men but trying to stay loyal to one of them. I miss the banter with Grandma Mazur as she isn't in this book as much but oh boy the ending will have you in stitches and wanting the 26th book to read NOW.

MY REVIEW:

English Tea Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery, #17)English Tea Murder by Leslie Meier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Lucy's friend invites her along to a trip to London sponsored by the local college. Their tour leader dies during the flight from an asthma attack. So of course Lucy uses her sleuthing skills again to find out exactly what happened.
When Lucy gets to London she runs into an old professor that she had and had a crush on. But he is not aging well and still kind of thinks he is a ladies man. During this trip she also notices some of the other people that are part of this tour, acting strange. Then another tour member dies and she is really intrigued by what is going on.

The King (A Wicked Trilogy #3.6)The King by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a Novella in the Wicked Trilogy and even though I did not read the trilogy I still ended up enjoying this and understanding what was going on. But now I really want to read the novella and I think I own some of them.Brighton really wants revenge on those who hurt her and killed her mom. Getting to know Brighton and Caden ( The King) was a ride I did not want to get off of. He really cares for her and she loves him but he is supposed to marry a Queen. What Brighton went through in this book most people wouldn't have. If you have not read this series then I say go out and read it before reading this book.

Excerpt:

“I don’t think this is wise,” Tink said for what had to be the hundredth time since he realized I was getting ready for a night out. “Like I think this is very poorly thought-out, if you ask me, Lite Bright.”
  “I didn’t ask you, Tink.”
My uninvited roommate of sorts hovered outside my bathroom. Tink wasn’t human, but right now, he looked like any normal twenty-something guy. Well, if normal, twenty-something guys had natural, shockingly white hair and were beautiful in a way that almost seemed fragile.
This was his full-grown Tink size, something I was still—even after all this time—getting used to. I was more accustomed to pint-sized Tink with the translucent wings.   After all, he was a brownie.
After the attack that had taken my mother’s life and should’ve ended mine, he’d basically moved in with me. He’d been here for the last two years, something Ivy’s husband pretended to be grateful for, but in reality, I knew he secretly missed the dude.
“You should ask me,” he replied. When I glanced over at him, I got a little distracted by the dazzle…emanating from the sequin tank top he wore. It was so shimmery that I wondered if he was using some of his magic.
Tink may be a goofball, but he was also one of the most powerful creatures in our realm.
Thank God there was only one of him.
“I am a wealth of amazing advice,” he continued. Dixon, the cat he’d named after a Walking Dead character that Tink called “the hottest redneck eva” slinked around Tink’s ankles. The cat was all gray except for his tail, which looked like it had been dipped in white paint.
I snorted. “When have you ever given me good advice?”
“When I told you two weeks ago not to eat the whole carton of beignets because you’d get sick and you did,” he shot back.
I winced, picking up my mascara. I had gotten sick, but I deserved that carton of sugary, fried goodness. That day…
I didn’t want to think about that day.
“And what about when you ordered that supreme pizza and ate almost all of it?” he said. “I told you that it would probably make you feel bad later.”
Nose wrinkling, I tried to remember what night he was talking about. There were a lot of Friday nights—pizza night in my household—that I ate an entire pie and felt terrible afterward.
“Or how about that time I told you that the seared ahi tuna looked a little gray for my liking? But, oh no, Brighton knows better.” He reached down, scratching Dixon between the ears. “You ate it all, and then I spent the night cleaning up your puke.”
  Ew.

Book review: Smokescreen by Iris Johansen

Smokescreen by Iris Johansen

In this pulse-pounding thriller from #1 New York Timesbestselling author Iris Johansen, forensic sculptor Eve Duncan journeys to Africa to help families torn apart by a violent attack deep in the jungle--but she may be putting herself in more danger than she knows.

A journalist shows up on Eve Duncan's doorstep with a plea for help. Jill Cassidy has just come from a small African village with a heart wrenching story: half the villagers--many of them children--have been killed in a horrific attack by guerilla soldiers, the bodies burned beyond recognition. Now, the families desperately need Eve's help to get closure and begin to heal.

But when Eve arrives in the remote jungle, she begins to suspect that Jill's plea may have been a cover story for a deeper, more sinister plot. Isolated and unsure who she can trust, Eve finds herself stranded in an unstable country where violence threatens to break out again at any moment and with only her own instincts to rely on if she hopes to get home to her family alive . . .

#1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen is back with one of her most exhilarating and dangerous adventures yet in this "riveting" high-stakes thriller (Publishers Weekly).

It has been awhile since I have read a book from this series. I am behind on the series but I didn't feel like I had to read the series up to this point.
Eve Duncan is a forensic sculptor and she is confronted by a Journalist to please go to a small African village. There was a horrible massacre that happened in the town and most of them children in a schoolroom. So she is asked to reconstruct the skulls of the children so the families have closure.
But once Eve gets there she believes that Jill tricked her to uncover something else or someone else.
As Eve meets the Queen of this village things don't seem to be as they appear. The Queen is not happy with Jill and doesn't seem to want Eve there.
There was so much going on and Eve's life seemed to be in danger which upsets her son and her husband. Her husband is an officer of the law and he goes to Africa to be with Eve and find out exactly what is going on.

Book Review: Recursion by Blake Crouch

Recursion

Memory makes reality.

That’s what New York City cop Barry Sutton is learning as he investigates the devastating phenomenon the media has dubbed False Memory Syndrome—a mysterious affliction that drives its victims mad with memories of a life they never lived.

Neuroscientist Helena Smith already understands the power of memory. It’s why she’s dedicated her life to creating a technology that will let us preserve our most precious moments of our pasts. If she succeeds, anyone will be able to re-experience a first kiss, the birth of a child, the final moment with a dying parent.

As Barry searches for the truth, he comes face-to-face with an opponent more terrifying than any disease—a force that attacks not just our minds but the very fabric of the past. And as its effects begin to unmake the world as we know it, only he and Helena, working together, will stand a chance at defeating it.

But how can they make a stand when reality itself is shifting and crumbling all around them?

                         MY REVIEW:

RecursionRecursion by Blake Crouch
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Wow. Talk about a lot of adventure and suspense. You wake up one morning and realize that your life is not what you thought. Then you wake up again and again all with different stories of your life. Helena Smith is making a chair to help restore memory as her mom has alzheimers but it gets inpt the hands of the wrong people. Barry is a cop and these 2 end up meeting and trying to change outcomes. But when you go back in time it is the whole world that does, not just you.
At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book because it was a little slow and all of this scientific jargon was going on but it picked up and you start understanding what is going on.

Book Review: The Highland Renegade by Amy Jarecki

The Highland Renegade (Lords of the Highlands, #5)

She is the daughter of his sworn enemy.
Famed for his fierceness, Laird Robert Grant is above all a loyal Highland clan chief. But when redcoats capture his rival's daughter, he sets aside their feud and races to her rescue. Aye, Janet Cameron is beautiful, cunning, and so very tempting, but a Cameron lass is the last woman he should ever desire.

He is her one hope of happiness.
Janet refuses to meekly surrender, not even when surrounded by foes. She takes every chance to escape, first from the English soldiers and then from the wickedly handsome Robert. Yet with each day they spend together, his unexpected gallantry chips away at her reserve little by little. As danger and treachery loom, can she trust him enough to choose love over vengeance?

                           MY REVIEW:

The Highland Renegade (Lords of the Highlands, #5)The Highland Renegade by Amy Jarecki
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Laird Robert Grant is a Highland Clan Chief and his enemy are the the Camerons. Their families have been feuding for many generations. Robert has accused his rivals of stealing his cattle, no matter what they say. But he falls for the daughter, Janet. The Redcoats go after Janet because their leader is drunk and is not so nice to Janet so she slaps him. Robert rescues her only for her to become hurt and he takes her back to his home to keep her away from the Redcoats and to heal properly. He sends a letter to her dad, who shows up sometime later one and is taking her home. He does not believe that Robert would be nice to her or take care of her properly. But Grant and Janet fell in love and he wants to win her hand from her family. Things don't look so good for them.
I really enjoyed this book and seeing Robert and Janet fall for each other. Janet couldn't stand him for years and realized she was wrong about him all along.

I like this series but don't like the lifestyle of sex clubs. I don't mind the sex scenes or the S&M.
This takes place after the kidnapping of their daughter and Nikki is still very afraid. So Damien takes her away to Paris and she must submit to him and learn not to be afraid anymore. He uses their sexual tension and all aspects of their sex life to get her to trust and let go of her fear.

Excerpt:

I’ve been dreading this conversation, but now that we’re having it, I can’t help but feel relieved. Because I don’t want to keep my wounds from Damien. Not when he’s the one who has always helped me heal.
I used to joke that Damien could remake the world to his will with nothing more than a sweep of his arm, and if that wasn’t enough, his checkbook could take over, and he’d remake it with a swipe of his pen. An exaggeration, of course. A joke, even.
And yet some small part of me believed it to be true.
No. Some part of me knew that it was true. Maybe not as to the whole world, but as to us. Him. Me. The girls. Our friends. Inside the bubble we lived in, Damien had that power.  Even when the outside world would squeeze in through a pinhole, somehow Damien would shoot them down and shoo them away.
Anne’s kidnapping was a huge breach in that bubble. But even then, Damien’s command and determination pulled us through, and we got our daughter back.
We also got pain and fear and death and betrayal. And defeat, I add, thinking of the newest scar to mar my inner thigh.
Even then, it took some crazy teens on a winding road for me to finally understand just how dangerous the monsters in the dark can be.
I love Damien. More important, I trust him.
But I’ve finally faced the realization that he can’t truly keep me or the girls safe any more than he could put that bubble back over our lives.
That’s the truth. That’s reality. And yet thinking it feels disloyal.
He’s watching me tenderly, studying my face. “Tell me,” he demands, and though it’s difficult, I lead him through the twisting path of my thoughts.
“It’s never bad when illusions are shattered,” he says when I finish. “Facing reality is the truest form of courage there is. But that doesn’t mean you have to give in to it. Instead, you acknowledge it. You look it in the eye. And in that moment, you know that you’re strong enough to withstand anything. You, Nikki.”
“Am I?” I know he believes it. He’s always seen a wellspring of strength in me that even the fact that I took a blade to my own flesh couldn’t squelch.
And the irony? He’s right. I am strong. I’m even stronger with him at my side.
But I’m also afraid.
I think of the terror that burned through my blood on that dangerous mountain road. The similar pang I feel every time my girls leave my sight now, because I’ve seen the truth. I know that anything could happen to them. Anything at all. And not even a man like Damien Stark can ensure their safety.
I meet his eyes. “Can you honestly tell me that your heart doesn’t tighten every moment they are out of your sight?”
“Our girls? Of course it does. Every moment you’re away from me, too. But goddammit, I won’t cower forever just because horror came knocking. And I won’t let you, either.”
