MY REVIEW: Wrong Alibi (Murder in Alaska, #1)Wrong Alibi by Christina Dodd
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

18 year old Evelyn is looking for a job when she gets contacted from Donald White, In Alaska. She has just been in trouble and wants to turn her life around and make her mom proud. Once she meets Donald then I was noticing red flags right away. But since she was only 18 , didn't know any better. He has her running all the errands and has the bank account in only her name. He never goes to town with her.
He also tells her not to go into the basement because it is unsafe and has no banister. Take your laundry to town.
One morning she wakes up and he is gone. So after really questioning herself about the weird things that are around the house, she decides to venture. She also decides to go down to the basement. Where she discovers 2 bodies. The police arrive and she is trying to tell them about Donald White. They don't believe her and arrest her for murder. That is when everything really starts to happen. I don't want to spoil anything but you really need to read this book to find out what happens.
I really liked Evelyn and I didn't feel like she was a whiner at all and she always kept her head on her shoulders.
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins (Harequin) for the ARC to review.

I enjoyed reading this and it has you on an adventure. The chemistry between Connor and Brie was great. she doesn't trust men and he lost his wife 3 years ago and hasn't been interested in anyone since then, until he meets Brie.
I did find this 3rd book of the series a little more slow and some parts boring, but overall I liked the plot.

As Darby Dixon sits in a tiny Texas church bathroom on her wedding day holding a positive pregnancy test, she realizes that of all the bad decisions she's made in her life, marrying her abusive fiancé would be the worst. She's never been able to stand up for herself, but she'll sure as hell stand up for her baby. With just the cash she has on hand, she runs to get a bus ticket to the farthest place she can afford. Between her sheer grit and pageant-queen smile, she lands a job as a front desk clerk at the Colorado Springs Hotel. It's not a glamorous life, but she and her baby are all that matters.

A former Marine, Scott "Trex" Trexler has worked in the most dangerous, corrupt, war-torn places on earth. Now he finally has a chance to return to the last place he'd felt at peace--Colorado Springs, Colorado, to take a new job with the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, a top-secret military installation buried deep within the granite.

The moment Trex walks into the inn, Darby knows he's dangerous. There's no way she wants to get involved with another man who seems to be keeping way too many secrets. As charming and devastatingly gorgeous as Trex is, he clearly isn't telling her everything. But as wildfires rage on the mountain and Darby's ex-fiancé shows he isn't so willing to let her go, both she and Trex are soon to find out that what you don't know absolutely can hurt you.

So she decides right and then to walk out the church and get out of town. With her best friend driving her to the bus station and leaving with a couple hundred dollars, she will start a new life.
She goes to Colorado Springs and gets a job at a hotel, where she also has a room to stay in.

Now he finally has a chance to return to the last place he'd felt at peace--Colorado Springs, Colorado, to take a new job with the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, a top-secret military installation buried deep within the granite.
Tex has always known that there was a woman out there for him and he knew when he saw her it would be for life. He saw Darby and knew she was the one. Now to convince her as she wants nothing to do with military men again.
I could understand why Darby is leery of men and most importantly military men as she had been abused. I also understood Tex's choice to keep some things from her until she got to know him as a person.

After all, she’s still mourning the death of her own father on September 11 and she’s determined to keep her son safe from danger and disaster. But Tommy’s father, Luke Baxter, is proud of Tommy’s decision, even arranging for his son to take part in a ride-along program with the Indianapolis Police Department.

Meanwhile, Tommy is in love for the first time. Annalee Miller has been a family friend for years. Their relationship is sweet and too good to be true. After prom, Tommy begins seriously thinking about asking her to marry him but she hasn’t been feeling well. Days later, tests reveal the unthinkable.

Blending romance and family drama into an emotionally satisfying story, Truly, Madly, Deeply is a testament to living and loving without fear, so that each moment is marked by reckless abandon and breathtaking passion.

I did not realize this was the 6thbook to a series.

This is a very emotional book. Tommy acts very mature for his age and knows what he wants. Annalee is battling something and together their love story will have you in tears. Sometimes I would forget that they were only 18.
I did not feel like I was missing anything by not reading the other books in the series.
I received this from Atria and NetGalley for review.

One victim.
Four accused.
Who is telling the truth?

Zara Kaleel, one of London's brightest legal minds, shattered the expectations placed on her by her family and forged a brilliant legal career. But her decisions came at a high cost, and now, battling her own demons, she has exchanged her high profile career for a job at a sexual assault center, helping victims who need her the most. Victims like Jodie Wolfe.

When Jodie, a sixteen-year-old girl with facial deformities, accuses four boys in her class of an unthinkable crime, the community is torn apart. After all, these four teenage defendants are from hard-working immigrant families and they all have proven alibis. Even Jodie's best friend doesn't believe her.

But Zara does—and she is determined to fight for Jodie—to find the truth in the face of public outcry. And as issues of sex, race and social justice collide, the most explosive criminal trial of the year builds to a shocking conclusion.

                                                          MY REVIEW:

Take It BackTake It Back by Kia Abdullah
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

A shocking, twisting courtroom thriller.
The Victim: Jodie Wolfe, a physically flawed 16-year-old girl accuses four boys in her class of something unthinkable. Jodie Wolfe is a white girl with horrific facial deformities. Her mother is an alcoholic who is mentally abusive to Jodie.
Four handsome immigrant and Muslim boys are coming from good, hard-working families, having a bright future ahead them.
Zara Kaleel, a former lawyer, one of London's brightest legal minds, takes on this case.
Together, they enter the most explosive criminal trial of the year, where the only thing that matters is justice for Jodie.
Zara is Muslim and her family is not a family I would want to be a part of. They treat her horribly and because she is a lawyer defending a white girl against Muslims then they feel she is betraying the community, along with the Muslim community.
There are a couple of twists and turns that I didn't see coming and the ending will leave you shaking your head in confusion.
Thank you to St. Martin's and NetGalley for the book to review.

Suspicion soon falls on her sister Meg, who was the last person to see her.

Through twists and turns, it is revealed that Meg has been sleeping with her brother-in-law Todd... And then there is a question of a newly purchased insurance policy that just has just gone into effect before Gen’s disappearance. Both Todd and Meg deny any knowledge of it.

But has an actual crime been committed? Can it be proven? And if so, who is really the guilty one?

The Last to See HerThe Last to See Her by Courtney Evan Tate
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gen is on the verge of a divorce from her cheating husband. When her sister, Meg, has a convention to attend in the Big Apple, she invites Gen along to celebrate her newly found freedom.
The 2 sisters have a night out and get drunk . Gen is asked why is she still wearing her wedding ring. So Gen takes it off and throws it off the balcony.
Then Gen decides to take a walk and disappears. The next morning Meg calls the police to report her missing. But of course she has to wait 24 hours.
As Meg is looking for her sister we find out about secrets and cheating. Twists and turns that kept me wanting more.

Book Review: The Wicked Hour by Alice Blanchard

                                                      Kindle Edition
                                                     Published December 1st 2020

The day after Burning Lake’s notorious, debauched Halloween celebration, Detective Natalie Lockhart uncovers a heartbreaking scene—a young woman, dead and lying in a dumpster. There’s no clue to who she is, save for a mystifying tattoo on her arm, and a callus underneath her chin. She’s not from around here. No one knows who she is.

As Natalie retraces the young woman’s steps leading up to her death, she uncovers a deeper, darker horror—a string of murders and disappearances, seemingly unconnected, that may have ties to each other—and explain the abrupt disappearance of her best friend years ago.

As she digs deeper within the mind of the hunter, Natalie finds a darkness she could never have imagined. And as she draws closer to the truth, the killer is weaving a trap for her that may prove inescapable.

Natalie is not going to give up on uncovering this mystery and she finds more clues that link to other murders and disappearances. We also find out that Natalie's best friend from high school had gone missing without any clue as to where she is.
I know I will continue on with this series as we learn more about Natalie and I think eventually the clue about her best friend, Belle's disappearance.

I absolutely loved the friendship between Coco and Sam. They were always there for each other and have a relationship where they can be brutally honest with each other.
Coco makes a lot of bad relationships where men are concerned and Sam lets her know what he thinks. Sam is Jewish , where as Coco isn't. So his family wants him to marry a Jewish woman and when he starts dating one then his family pushes for marriage. Coco knows he isn't happy though and feels bad for him.

Silent Night, Deadly Night (Suspense Series #6)Silent Night, Deadly Night by Kaylea Cross
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is book 6 of this series and I did not read the other books. I do want to go back and read the rest at some time. But I had no trouble understanding the characters or what was going on.

Just as Sam and Ben are leaving for Luke's, Sam receives an envelope with a piece of paper with numbers on it, a key and a drive. She decides to work on it at Luke's house. That is when everything starts to happen.
When Sam starts working on the information , she discovers a group of special forces officers who have gone rogue and have hidden bank accounts from working with terrorists. This has put a target on her back.
