Come to me, Empress …

At age twenty, Selene Bowers desperately hopes to be accepted into Henbane Coven, an academy for young witches. Since one of the requirements for entry is to connect with her powers via a quest through the wilderness, Selene books a trip to South America. When a nefarious supernatural force tries to drag her plane from the sky, Selene's magic awakens to save her life―at a cost. Using her powers devours her memories, one by one.

Worse, when Selene braves the jungle and discovers the source of the attack, she finds herself awakening an ancient evil, Memnon the Cursed, who mistakes Selene for his long-dead wife. The wife who betrayed him. Selene manages to escape and begin her studies at Henbane, but when Memnon turns up at the coven and witches are found dead across campus, Selene becomes entangled in a dangerous plot. Accused of the murders on the basis of her memory loss, Selene must rely on Memnon's help for answers―and his plans for her will change everything.

MY REVIEW:

Bewitched (Bewitched, #1)Bewitched by Laura Thalassa
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Selene is a witch who forgets parts of her memory every time she uses magic.
I really disliked Memnon. He says Selene was his wife from years ago and instead of trying to help her remember, he torments her.
I kept yelling at him to STFU lol. I believed what he was saying but he was going about it all the wrong way.
I wanted Selene with the werewolf. I think there was also something there between them and a chemistry that could have been shown more.
Thank you to NetGalley and sourcebooks for the ARC to read.

Found in the forest when she was young, Laura Thalassa was raised by fairies, kidnapped by werewolves, and given over to vampires as repayment for a hundred year debt. She’s been brought back to life twice, and, with a single kiss, she woke her true love from eternal sleep. She now lives happily ever after with her undead prince in a castle in the woods.

… or something like that anyway.

When not writing, Laura can be found scarfing down guacamole, hoarding chocolate for the apocalypse, or curled up on the couch with a good book.

A thrilling introduction to the dark mystical world of Melanie ‘Breaker’ Perkiss, Buffalo NY’s most capable witch hunter and spell lifter.
In this debut instalment, a dark mage acting on behalf of a vengeful ex has magically removed the genitals of a man and vanished, leaving him wiped clean down there. And unfortunately for the victim, he is set to wed…now imagine saying ‘I do’ while in that deprived state.
No wonder when a shell-shocked and heartbroken Casey walks into Melanie’s office to report the incident, the witch hunter immediately goes on a chase, risking her own life as she encounters dark creatures and malevolent spirits in the city’s darkest corners.
The pressure is indeed on Mel: the wedding is fast approaching and leads remain few. Will she be able to corner the mage, recover the taken goods and save a doomed marriage, while bringing the conspirators to justice?

HEIST: A Melanie Perkiss Witch Hunter NovelHEIST: A Melanie Perkiss Witch Hunter Novel by Kezzy Sparks
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was written in the area where I live so to hear the names of towns and roads was fun.Melanie is a witch hunter in Buffalo, NY. She is after a witch who put a spell on Casey days before he is to be married. Casey's ex hired the witch and had something taken from him that would hurt his marriage. Then she steals it from the witch and it keeps getting stolen from others. Casey hires Melanie to get the item back and Melanie wants to bring the witch to justice. Sometimes I would shake my head at all the antics and then I would cheer for the 2 familiars and then be sad. I would also think Casey got what he deserved and his fiance could do better.
I received this as an ARC from Xpresso.
