Book Review: Desert Flower- Rose by Judith Keim

Three talented women brought together by a man’s love…
When Rose Macklin is asked to help Alec Thurston, the one man she’s ever truly loved, by coming to Palm Desert, California, she doesn’t hesitate. He’s dying of cancer and needs her help overseeing the sale of his hotel, the Desert Sage Inn, to another hotel group. With her marketing skill and as the owner of a very successful blog, she’s his perfect choice to make the sale a smooth transition while ensuring the new owners will maintain the reputation and image of the upscale property after the sale. She arrives to find Alec has summoned two other women to help with the project. Lily Weaver was once Alec’s assistant, and Willow Sanchez was like a daughter to him. They join forces to help him, lovingly accepting his nickname for them—the Desert Flowers, similar to the well-known Charlie’s Angels of TV fame.
When Rose is assigned to work alongside Hank Bowers, an independent consultant to the hotel company’s team, she shudders at his reputation as an outgoing guy who always uses sports analogies and is certain they won’t get along. But Alec counsels her to give Hank a chance and, later, as they work together as a team, Rose is left to wonder if falling for one another is part of Alec’s secret plan even if one of Hank’s grown daughters fights the idea.
A series for those who love stories about strong women facing challenges and finding love and happiness along the way.

Judith Keim enjoyed her childhood and young-adult years in Elmira, New York, and now makes her home in Boise, Idaho, with her husband and their two dachshunds, Winston and Wally, and other members of her family.

While growing up, she was drawn to the idea of writing stories from a young age. Books were always present, being read, ready to go back to the library, or about to be discovered. All in her family shared information from the books in general conversation, giving them a wealth of knowledge and vivid imaginations.

A hybrid author who both has a publisher and self-publishes, Ms. Keim writes heart-warming novels about women who face unexpected challenges, meet them with strength, and find love and happiness along the way. Her best-selling books are based, in part, on many of the places she's lived or visited and on the interesting people she's met, creating believable characters and realistic settings her many loyal readers love. Ms. Keim loves to hear from her readers and appreciates their enthusiasm for her stories.

Big Bad Cowboy (Once Upon a Time in Texas #1)Big Bad Cowboy by Carly Bloom
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The start of the book is The big bad wolf and little red riding hood and a one night stand.
Then the story starts with Maggie and her business and then Travis starting his business and they get forced to work with each other. Not to long after Travis realizes who little red riding hood is but Maggie has no clue that Travis is the big bad wolf.
I had to keep reading to see if things would click for Maggie.
Then there is the txting between the big bad wolf and little red riding hood. Those scenes were funny.
I couldn't put this book down and was happy with the story.
Thanks to Forever for the book to review.

Carly Bloom began her writing career as a family humor columnist and blogger, a pursuit she abandoned when her children grew old enough to literally die from embarrassment. To save their delicate lives, Carly turned to penning steamy, contemporary romance. The kind with bare chests on the covers.

Carly and her husband raise their mortified brood of offspring on a cattle ranch in South Texas. Also? Carly is a vegan. The cows love her.

                                                 MY REVIEW:

Dream a Little Dream (Sunshine Valley #3)Dream a Little Dream by Melinda Curtis
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

First off I want to let you know that I did not read the other 2 books of this trilogy but I felt like it read as a stand alone.
Darcy Jones Harper has lost her husband and he was a judge and her mentor. When he died then he made sure she was appointed as the new judge and he left her everything. Nothing to his sons or his ex girlfriend. Darcy grew up with parents and a brother who are criminals and spending time in jail. Because of that she has no respect and needs to earn it.
Jason Petrie is a rodeo star and recuperating from an injury, one that he is still hiding from. He is also Darcy's ex boyfriend, who they had a relationship with for years. He wants her back.
There is a dog in this book who seems to have seperation anxiety and stomach issues which had me laughing throughout the book.
Then there is the widows club who like to be matchmakers and they are quite meddlesome and funny.
Thank you to Forever and NetGalley for the ARC.

                                                   MY REVIEW:

Somebody to Love (Blessings, Georgia, # 11)Somebody to Love by Sharon Sala
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the 11th book in a series but it read as a standalone. some day I may go back and read the whole series but I got a lot out of reading this.
Fifteen years ago, a family member stole the money Hunt Knox had saved for college, while three of his siblings and his father hid the truth and told him to get over it. Betrayed by their lies and thievery, Hunt joined the army and wound up flying Apache helicopters in Iraq.
Now Hunter is back home, per his mother's wishes, as she is dying. When he gets to hospital he gets to say goodbye to her and tells her he will keep the promise he made her.
With his sisters and brothers there he is very hurt by the past and they are not happy to see him either.
This book has loss and moving on from loss and hurt. But the truth always comes out. The secret that was kept will also bring them all back together. I was wrong on what the secret is.
Hunt also runs into a woman who is from his past and was a part of his family. While getting his mom's house ready to sell Hunt gets close to Ava.
There are other families affected by loss in this book and how they deal with it.
Very well written.

MY REVIEW:

DistrustDistrust by Lisa Jackson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

2 books in 1.
Renegade Son is the first story in Distrust.
Danielle Summers is single mom who owns a ranch. The neighbor by her wants it and he seems to be shady. Things keep happening on the ranch and she has an idea who is doing it but has no proof. Now his partner comes onto the scene and she doesn't trust him either. But there is chemistry between the 2 of them and he doesn't seem to trust his partner either. Meanwhile her ex, who walked out years ago seems to want to be a part of her son's life but she wants nothing to do with him.

Midnight Sun is the 2nd story in this book.
There’s nothing secretive about the hostility between two of Oregon’s leading lumber families. The feud has been long, ruthless, and bloody, and Ashley Stephens and Trevor Daniels are still reeling from the damage it’s caused.
Now it is 8 years later and Ashley's dad has died and he left the business for her. Trevor is running for the senate and his life seems to be in jeopardy. They had a relationship years ago and neither got over each other.

I enjoyed having 2 short stories in 1 book. This author has written suspense with romance thrown in. The main characters I really enjoyed and with both stories I had an idea of what was going on.

Alex crossed to the bed, where the only woman he had ever loved lay immobile. There was an ugly dark bruise along her jaw, but far more shocking was the plastic breathing tube protruding from between the lips he’d kissed only hours earlier. Despair and fear rose in Alex’s throat. 'We have a little boy. His name is Connor. He still needs his mother… We both do.'

When Lisa married Alex, she gave his life meaning. She was a professional astronomer: a stargazer. And when she gazed at Alex, she saw that behind his tough exterior was a man she could love.

Alex, Lisa and their young son Connor made a happy little universe. But then Lisa dies in a train crash, and their perfect world is destroyed. Alex is shattered by loss, and overwhelmed by the difficulties of being a single father to a six-year-old. How can he and Connor carry on without Lisa lighting up their lives?

But throughout her life Lisa touched the hearts of more people than just her family. And as those people whose fates were changed come forward after her tragic death, Alex hears their stories and begins to realise the world may not be as cruel and senseless as it seems. If you can find the strength to start over, there are new beginnings in even our most heartbreaking moments…

Million-copy bestselling author Dani Atkins returns for this gripping, powerful and emotional page turner that fans of Jodi Picoult, Diane Chamberlain and Kate Hewitt will find completely unputdownable.

                                                MY REVIEW:

Gone Too SoonGone Too Soon by Dani Atkins
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was so good and full of a lot of emotions.
Lisa and Alex are married with a young son named Connor. One morning they get up and get ready for the day as they always do. Lisa leaves for work. Then there is a train crash and Alex is crushed because he can't get Lisa to answer her phone and he knew she was on the train. Getting the phone call to come to the hospital was a nightmare.
Lisa was an organ donor. Because of that it changed the lives of 4 people. When Alex contacts them a relationship forms between all of them. Even Connor comes to enjoy them.
So the question is if your spouse/partner was a donor, would you want to know who received the organs? Or if you received organs would you want to say thank you to the family?

A brilliantly twisty psychological thriller for fans of I Let You Go and Behind Closed Doors.

How far would you go to create the perfect life?

Gracie Dwyer has it all: the handsome husband, the adorable child, the beautiful home and the glittering career. The perfect life.

Her new friend Juliet doesn’t exactly fit in. She’s a down-on-her-luck single parent with no money and not much hope.

So just what is it that draws Gracie and Juliet together? And when the cracks start to appear in Gracie’s perfect life, can both of them survive?

Her Perfect LifeHer Perfect Life by Sam Hepburn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I had a hard time deciding if I wanted to give this a 3 or 4 star rating. I really enjoyed the book and it had the twists and turns that I like in books. But sometimes a little slow and I got tired of Juliet and her behavior. I also thought Grace was to good to be true.
Gracie Dwyer has it all: the handsome husband, the adorable child, the beautiful home and the glittering career. The perfect life.
Grace is getting letters from someone that she has no idea who, maybe someone from her past.
Then we are getting to read diary entries and we don't know whose diary we are reading about. I thought it was Juliet and then I thought it was Grace.
Maybe Tom, Grace's husband, is the one we need to watch out for. Or Grace's best friend.

The first time you see them, out for an evening walk on the cliffs, you’ll think they’re the perfect family. You’ll see a wife who looks so happy, strolling peacefully beside her husband in his dark winter coat, holding her daughter’s hand. But you have no idea what’s really happening in their house…

If you come a little closer you might hear the way the man speaks to his wife.

You might notice that the woman doesn’t have any close friends. That sometimes her husband doesn’t want her to leave the house. You might wonder if that’s a scar her beautiful daughter is hiding on her neck.

When you read the local newspaper and hear the news that the wife has fallen from the cliffs, you’ll question whether it was really an accident at all.

And when the husband starts dating someone new – a woman with the same long dark hair and big blue eyes as his wife – will you say something this time?

Because someone has to protect the little girl and stop history from repeating itself. And it may already be too late.

MY REVIEW:

His Hidden WifeHis Hidden Wife by Wendy Clarke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I read this in 1 sitting. I could not put it down. There were so many twists and turns and just when I thought I figured some things out then I was wrong.
When Maya was a little girl her mom had died, by falling off the sea cliff. We re led to believe she committed suicide. She is now an adult and still living with her dad but he never wants to talk much about her mom and seems to be covering up things. She is finding out things bout their marriage and maybe her dad has been lying to her.
Her dad, Stephen is a psychologist and one of his partners, Teresa, where he works, seems to be obsessed with him. What lengths will she go to to be with him. She just left her abusive husband and took her son with her.
Teresa is also dealing with her mother who has dementia and she struggling with the decision if she needs to be put in a home.
Then Amy comes along, and Stephen is dating her. What things does she find out.
I highly recommend this book.

About the Book:

MacKenzie Dienes's life isn't perfect, but it's as close as she could ever hope to get. Her marriage to Rhys, her best friend's brother, is more friendship than true love. But passion is highly overrated, right? And she loves her job as the winemaker at Bel Apres, her in-laws' vineyard. So what if it's a family business and, even after decades of marriage and incredible professional success, she's still barred from the family business meetings? It's all enough...until one last night spent together leads to an incredibly honest—and painful—conversation. Rhys suggests that they divorce. They haven't had a marriage in a long time and, while he wants her to keep her job at Bel Apres, he doesn't think they should be married any longer. Shocked, MacKenzie reels at the prospect of losing the only family she's ever really known...even though she knows deep in her heart that Rhys is right.

But when MacKenzie discovers she's pregnant, walking away to begin a new life isn't so easy. She never could have anticipated the changes it would bring to the relationships she cherishes most: her relationship with Barbara, her mother-in-law and partner at Bel Apres, Stephanie, her sister-in-law and best friend, and Bel Apres, the company she's worked so hard to put on the map.

MacKenzie has always dreamed of creating a vineyard of her own, a chance to leave a legacy for her unborn child. So when the opportunity arises, she jumps at it and builds the Vineyard at Painted Moon. But following her dreams will come at a high price—one that MacKenzie isn't so sure she's willing to pay…

                                                                MY REVIEW:

The Vineyard at Painted MoonThe Vineyard at Painted Moon by Susan Mallery
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What a great women's fiction story. I fell in love with the story right away and the vineyards and wines.
Mackenzie Dienes seems to have it all—a beautiful home, close friends and a successful career as an elite winemaker with the family winery. There’s just one problem—it’s not her family, it’s her husband’s.
They they admit that their marriage is over and she loses everything. His sister is her best friend and his mom is like a mom to her. She is also close to his one other sister. She has been a part of the family and the business for about 17 years. But she can't have any part of the business except for making wine. She wants more.
If she can dare to let go of the life she thought she wanted, she might discover something even more beautiful waiting for her beneath a painted moon.
Mackenzie's husband turns out to not be the person she always thought he was. The mother in law is a cold hearted person and everything is about her. She is horrible to all of her family members and I can't believe they don't walk away from her.
When Mackenzie turns to someone to help her make her dreams come true then I was so happy for her and to get away from her in laws. But can she keep her 2 sister in laws as her friends through everything?
I received this from Harper Collins and NetGalley for review.

This is the 6th book of the Rockton series

Detective Casey Duncan has noticed fewer and fewer residents coming in to the hidden town of Rockton, and no extensions being granted. Her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton, presumes it’s the natural flux of things, but Casey’s not so sure. Something bigger is happening in the small town they call home.

When an injured hiker stumbles from the woods, the sole survivor of a hostile attack, it’s all hands on deck. Even a member of the elusive Rockton council comes in to help. This council member also comes bearing news: Rockton is being shut down due to the hostile situation.

Casey and Eric must now race to save the town that has allowed residents to have a fresh start, away from the mistakes of their past, while also getting to the bottom of this latest attack.

I had a hard time getting into this book. Maybe because I didn't read the other books in the series.
Casey and Eric must now race to save the town that has allowed residents to have a fresh start, away from the mistakes of their past, while also getting to the bottom of this latest attack.
I felt that there were lot of characters and groups that had me scratching my head. So like I said it might be because I didn't read the other books.
There are settlers and Hostils. Who is with who had me confused. And why they are the way they are.
Thank you to NetGalley for letting me review this.

Kelley Armstrong has been telling stories since before she could write. Her earliest written efforts were disastrous. If asked for a story about girls and dolls, hers would invariably feature undead girls and evil dolls, much to her teachers' dismay. All efforts to make her produce "normal" stories failed.

Today, she continues to spin tales of ghosts and demons and werewolves, while safely locked away in her basement writing dungeon. She's the author of the NYT-bestselling "Women of the Otherworld" paranormal suspense series and "Darkest Powers" young adult urban fantasy trilogy, as well as the Nadia Stafford crime series. Armstrong lives in southwestern Ontario with her husband, kids and far too many pets.
