Blog Tour: Hard Knox by Amber Malloy

HARD KNOX
by Amber Malloy

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Sports Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

A simple favor to save the girl turns into the quarterback losing his heart.

As beautiful as she is fun, Remy Bell has only one problem—a psychotic killer with political power wants her dead. Always a ‘two steps ahead’ type of gal, she plans to outrun the maniac. Marriage and a sweet life in the football star’s hometown in Canada would give her the cover she needs, but Remy doesn’t stick around long enough to find out. She travels all over the world, photographing the most beautiful and devastating events, but her now-husband’s tabloid activities lead her to the one place she should avoid…back home.

Superstar Gavin Knox wins at everything. However, once he scores the girl of his dreams, he’s suddenly in danger of losing the one thing he has always needed. Before she can slip through his fingers, he offers her a deal she can’t refuse—marry him for Canadian citizenship, which will protect her, and after five years, they can divorce. Knox is positive that she will fall head over heels in love with him, but it doesn’t happen. After six years of marriage, two playoff titles and a third on the way, Knox is forced to contend with a successful wife almost more famous than he is.

Determined to get exactly what he wants, which includes having Remy and a family, he devises a stupid scheme that puts everything he’s worked so hard for in jeopardy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt
With less than a minute on the clock, Gavin Knox faked right and threw the ball to his running back. His teammate’s gravity-defying catch took place in the end zone, resulting in their game-winning touchdown. As the band played the school’s fight song, the student body of Michigan Institute of Technology flooded the field.
Letting out a ferocious howl, Knox snatched off his helmet. For the second time in a row his team was headed to the championships. With only one more year left in college, Knox looked forward to the Heisman Trophy Ceremony and a single digit position in the professional draft.
It may have seemed arrogant on his part to assume that he had a right to any of those things, but he had worked his ass off. He had mapped out his whole career since the age of twelve. In his freshman year of high school, Knox had transferred to America from Canada to secure his spot in the pros. He’d then followed it up with enrollment at a Big Ten college.
Intending to get drunk off his ass, Knox scanned the crowd for his best friend, Hawk. On his way past a couple of his teammates, he slapped their heads as he moved closer to the stands—and that was when he saw her. A chocolate-colored honey ran straight at him. Her letterman jacket showcased her body-hugging, tight sweater and perfect tits. Since she was focused on something over her shoulder, Knox felt safe to peruse her banging-ass body without judgment.
However, once she turned those big, almond-shaped eyes in his direction, his whole world came to a sudden and glorious halt. Shiny black curls bounced up and down, framing her heart-shaped face. Simple and utter perfection barreled straight at him.
As she licked her full lips, instant wood clouded his mind. Even if he wanted to, he couldn’t seem to stop himself. Fate had other plans. Flashes of what life would be like if he didn’t talk to her propelled him into action. Knox reached out to snag her around the waist, bringing the beauty inches from his mug.
“Where did you come from?” he asked her.
                            MY REVIEW:
Hard Knox (Perfect Stats, #2)Hard Knox by Amber Malloy
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
What a great story. Gavin is a quarterback and his wife's life is being threatened by a high power. The media doesn't know Gavin is married and the headlines always have him hooked up to other women. But when Gavin married Remy it was to keep her safe and out of the US. He told her she would only have to stay married to him for 5 years and then he would give her a divorce. Little did she know he had fallen for her and didn't really plan on giving her a divorce.
I really enjoyed these characters and Gavin's friends/teammates. Even the teammates wives/girlfriends. All except for 1 who was such a bitch that I couldn't figure out why the other women put up with her.
Blog Tour: Blue Magnolia by W. F. Ranew
BLUE MAGNOLIA
by W.F. Ranew
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Mystery-Thriller

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
PI Red Farlow dives headfirst into a hornets' nest of extremists. His new client, Hank Tillman, only wants to get a shot at country music stardom. While playing in a Georgia bar, Hank—known as Cowboy to his fans—stumbles into trouble. The kind that kills. PI Red Farlow steps in to help him.
Hank’s song, Redneck Devil, attracts the attention of a violent group called the Blue Magnolia. Its leaders want him to perform at their next hate rally. There's another, darker reason the Blue Magnolia wants Hank in its fold.
An elderly patient in a Florida insane asylum reveals a decades-long secret that devastates Hank. It’s the worst kind of fake news.
Can Farlow root out the truth? The PI has his own problems as he confronts a hired killer face-to-face.
Excerpt
As he connected the amp to the microphone, foot pedal, and other electrical components, someone walked up to him.
“Can I get you a Coke, sweetie pie?” the tender young voice behind him asked.
Hank turned to see a divine presence. He couldn’t say anything for a moment because he started trembling. Did her beauty do this to him? Or perhaps the way she gently touched his shoulder and bent over slightly, revealing her ample cleavage right there in his face? Yes, those things made him quiver at that moment. Her perfume, her hair, everything about her tossed him up, down, and all over the place. He didn’t think he could stand up. He just squatted there, right knee on the floor, and nervously fiddled with the amp.
Shy Hank. Shaky Hank. What-the-hell-do-I-say-now? Hank.
Finally, he uttered, “Uh . . . ah . . . yes ma’am, please. A Coke. Yeah, that would be fine. Thank you.”
Sybbe smiled down at him. She turned and walked to the bar. She swayed, undulated, bounced, all in a graceful way. She asked the bartender for the soft drink, a big one, and cocked her right hip wide out with her left foot resting on the foot railing, and looked back across the room at Hank.
She winked.
                               MY REVIEW:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Hank Tilman wants to be a country star and he keeps playing n bars and getting into trouble. PI Red Farlow is hired by Hank's cousin to keep Hank out of trouble. Meanwhile Hank has a song called Redneck Devil and a violent group called Blue Magnolia wants the song and wants Hank to sing it at their next rally.
what I enjoyed about the story is no matter what Hank gets into his family is looking out for him. Even though he has a temper and it gets him into trouble.
There is also an elderly man in Florida who has some secrets that will shock everyone.
Book Blast: Beyond the Surface by Trisha Ridinger McKee
This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Trisha Ridinger McKee will be awarding a $15 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other tours on the stop.
Ella is a middle-aged woman with a stagnant career, an exasperated teenage daughter, and a husband that has left to make a new life with another woman. Her first attempt at dating is a disaster, and in an attempt to refocus her life and rediscover her joy, Ella goes fishing. It is here that she meets Dennis, the older, captivating man that ends up saving her life and stealing her heart. But Dennis has a history, and Ella might just be in for the biggest heartbreak of her life if she can not get her emotions under control and face the demons from her own past.
Enjoy an Excerpt
“Leave. Go do your usual Friday night stuff. I’m sure it involves dating and normalcy and having fun. Don’t come here out of obligation to spend some pity time with a middle-aged, boring, frump of a woman -”
“Hey!” he yelled, his fist closing in around the blanket. He waited as she stared back in surprise. “Are you done yet?”
“Maybe,” she hissed because she suddenly couldn’t catch her breath.
He set the blanket down and then climbed the few steps before sitting down beside her. “Let’s make one thing clear. I’m here because I want to be. And middle-aged? I’m older than you. By a decade. Frump of a woman? Honey, you have no idea just who you are, do you?”
Before she could ask what he meant, he leaned in and kissed her. Gently, hesitantly and then he drew back to study her. With a slight grin, a muffled curse, he kissed her again, this time with more urgency, hunger… as if he had been waiting to do just what he was doing.
Ella felt her body betray her by leaning into him, her arms lacing around his neck without her permission. She felt like she was made of air and yet could not sit up on her own. She felt his hands on her back, two hot spots that seared through her shirt and reached her racing blood. This was just some type of retaliation for her kiss in the store, she told herself. This was not real.
And then it was over. She felt cold, exposed as he pulled away, although his hands remained. “Dammit.”
Blog Tour: Hrd Luck Girl by Topshee Johnston
HARD LUCK GIRL
by Topshee Johnston
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Mystery/Thriller

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Hard Luck Girl is a mystery about prostitution in a location better known for gardens than gangsters — Victoria, British Columbia.
Rose's life has never been easy. When she finds her pimp murdered it gets a whole lot harder. At first, she sees it as an opportunity but discovers the status quo has been disrupted and she's not at the top of the food chain, not even close.
Avoiding psychopaths, police, and friends like thieves, there is no one she can turn to for help not once she discovers a pimps life is cheap, a prostitute's even cheaper.
Stuck between the desire for a better life and holding on to hers, is a needle she's not sure she can thread. But maybe Hard Luck is better than no luck at all?
"A gritty novel with a surprising and strong female lead. Johnston offers all the expected hard-boiled elements in this mystery—including shady characters, near misses with the police, rampant sex, drug use, and violence.”
Excerpt
On my knees, I pulled Rod’s stash out from the air conditioner. I took a hefty-sized rock, held it in my hand, and weighed both it and the circumstances. She came for crystal meth, but she’d take whatever I gave her. I dug back in the air conditioner and pulled out the suspect bag when her words stuck me. “He’s got that good ice.” How did she know that? It was a chance to conduct an experiment and find out what she knew. If someone came back for the drugs and saw that the bag was short, I’d pay for it or replace it. No harm, no foul. But if it was laced with fentanyl and had in fact killed Rod, Suzy would be dead in minutes. It might make me complicit in murder, but she’d end up there at some point anyway, like a package in the mail. I’d just upgraded the shipping. If it didn’t kill her, she’d be grateful to me for giving it to her. If caught with it, she could point her finger at me and remain innocent. We were a begrudged sisterhood of sorts, we all hated the clients, society and life—we didn’t care for each other all that much either.
She looked like a dog waiting for a treat when I opened the door. She stepped toward me, hands out and palms open. She examined it before I’d even placed the poison apple in her hand, as if it were a cruel joke. She waited for me to name my price, and I let her sweat like I was about to but didn’t. I placed it in her hand, and to let her off my invisible leash said, “Don’t worry. I know you’re good for it.” She wet her cracked lips, possibly thinking about the repercussions, but her immediate appetite trumped an unknown future. She wasn’t good for it, and luckily, she didn’t have to be. I’d used her cravings against her and gained at least a favor.
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I wasn't sure if I would like this book at first. As I started reading it I kept getting dragged into the story. Full of action and not knowing who to trust. A prostitute turning her pimps murder into the good for her to make the money. Then she needs to figure out who she can trust while dodging 2 men and the police. Driving around in her bosses truck and figuring out what to do so she doesn't get caught.
Book Blast: Biology of the Brain by Kent Macleod
FOREWORD BY SUZANNE SOMERS
Biology of the Brain
Are you sick?
Are you plagued by chronic health problems with no cure or remedy in sight?
Are you tired of spending thousands on medications that only seem to make you worse?
Think that your drugs are a sham that are just managing symptoms and never dealing with the root cause? You’re not alone!
Millions suffer from similar ailments and health struggles just like you, only to be prescribed more medications that can actually cause harm, and in some cases, even kill you. The medical industry has it all backward!
Chronic health conditions and mental health disorders are increasing at an alarming rate, and yet we are still trying to use the same old ineffective drugs that can have very serious side effects.
We’re the blind leading the blind in the hopes that the next great pill will solve all of our problems. Meanwhile, the health of the majority of Canadians and Americans is deteriorating—fast!
But there is a growing understanding in the community that there’s a bigger beast at the heart of the health epidemic…
It’s called the microbiome. And it’s intimately connected to your brain.
Microbiome health is brain health.
In The Biology of the Brain, Kent MacLeod, pharmacist, founder and CEO of NutriChem Compounding Pharmacy and Clinic, breaks down why modern medicine is killing people instead of healing them. Instead of leaving the problem as it stands, he provides you with clear, actionable steps to not only heal your microbiome, but to restore your brain health and get your life back.
Read an Excerpt
This chapter is about the 50% of people that do not get a full response to our microbiome treatment plans within the first 30 days. We’ll cover how:
             Not everyone responds to diet, probiotics, and prebiotics.
             There are bacteria and fungi that must be killed off, and are dificult to kill off, before certain people can shift their microbiome effectively.
             There are certain herbal antimicrobials that have proven to be as effective as many antibiotics for killing biofilm-forming microorganisms.
             There are other herbals, with less scientific evidence, that have been used traditionally to treat gastrointestinal issues.
We are beginning to realize that almost all substances, be it a drug, a food, or a drink, impact the microbiome, and we must be aware of this. RESPECT THE MICROBIOME! DISRESPECT IT AT YOUR PERIL!
For certain patients, we have to dig deeper into their issues with specific testing. Using urinary organic acid testing (a urine sample), we can look at signs of bacterial or fungal overgrowth and biofilms that may not be treatable with diet, probiotics, and prebiotics. We also look at stool samples for bacterial strains, and perform bacterial DNA testing to identify what bugs are currently residing in your gut.
We are just now beginning to awaken to the fact that any time that you change your diet, fibers, drugs, or herbs, you are always shifting or manipulating the microbiome. Anything that you intake, be it food, drink, or drugs, can impact the microbiome. Exercise, sleep, and stress reduction have also shown to improve the health of the microbiome.
An interesting example is the drug, metformin. Metformin has been the number one oral drug used to treat Type 2 diabetes for decades. Initially, we thought that this drug sensitized the body to insulin via the pancreas or liver, but recent studies have shown that metformin actually exerts its effects via the microbiome.
The Power of Love
by Kemberlee Shortland
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE:   Contemporary Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
When Elaine Donovan discovers she's pregnant, she hesitates telling her husband, Ethan. They're newlyweds and plan to wait until they're ready to start a family. Ethan surprises her by accepting early parenthood, embracing the idea more fully than either of them expects.
When they receive bad news after a prenatal exam, both must face that their charmed lives are about to come crashing down around them.
Do Christmas wishes really come true? Elaine is staking her life on it!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt:

He’d practically killed himself getting to the hospital.

When Ethan got the call saying Elaine had collapsed at work, he panicked and dropped everything to get to her side. He still had not been allowed to see her, as she was still undergoing tests, so he waited in the private room he had made sure their health insurance covered.

A moment later, his pacing was interrupted when the door pushed open and Elaine was wheeled in on a gurney. Assistants helped her into bed then the nurse made her comfortable, all the while his heart pumped hard in his chest, stealing his breath. Elaine looked pale and groggy. He wondered if she even knew he was in the room.
Then he was alone with his wife. She lay so still. The rise under the covers told him she had not lost their baby, but his chest tightened anyway, fear pumping acid-like blood though his body at a fierce rate.

“Are you going to stand there all day?” Her voice was thready, her eyes just barely open. She tried lifting her hand off the bed to beckon him over but only managed a finger.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a short story and took about 30 minutes to read but it is packed with a lot of emotions. By the time I had finished this story my face was soaking wet from tears.
Elaine and Ethan are newlyweds and very much in love. Elaine soon finds out she is pregnant but afraid to tell Ethan because they wanted to wait. But he is so excited. Then one day something happens and they receive really bad news. This story had me hooked from the very beginning and I had no idea how it would end. Thanks toGoddess Fish Promotions and the author for the ARC.
