This is book #14 of the Michael Bennett series.
NYPD master homicide investigator Michael Bennett and top FBI abduction specialist Emily Parker have a history.
Emily fails to show up at FBI Headquarters which worries Michael and on top of that he has a missed call from her and she is not answering her phone. So he goes outside his jurisdiction to go find her.
I have not read the other books in the series but they are on my TBR.
Michael and his wife had just gotten married and raising Michael's 10 adopted kids. I really cant wait to read more of this series to find out why he had adopted 10 kids.
He also investigates , no matter, what until he gets answers. Even if it pisses off people and he gets physically hurt in the process.

A tourist group stumbles upon a massacre in the Everglades. FDLE special agent Amy Larson discovers a small horse figurine amid the bloody aftermath. The toy is the calling card of the apocalypse cult that Amy and her partner, FBI special agent Hunter Forrest, have been investigating.
As tensions between rival gangs rise, so does the body count, and Amy and Hunter’s investigation leads them to a violent, far-right extremist group who are in no hurry to quell the civil unrest. With a deadly puppet master working to silence their every lead, it’s a race against the clock to figure out who’s been pulling the strings.
They question al the tourists and then it looks like the tourists lives are at stake as it seems they may know something. As the investigation goes on I began to wonder myself just who is telling the truth, who is lying, and who really doesn't know anything,
As the investigation leads them to another murder in NY city they are still trying to see how it ties into the Everglades murders.
I like how Amy and Hunter work together but also how they can set aside what happened by the end of the day to be together as real partners and to be able to eat and sleep until the next day,

This is the 2nd book to this series and I did read the first one and enjoyed it. This book was as good and can't wait for another one.
When Detective Clara Jefferies is called to a family ranch just outside of Alber, Utah, she’s horrified to find two innocent young children murdered alongside their mothers. But she arrives at the scene quickly enough to rush their father, Jacob Johansson, to hospital where he begins fighting for his life, and to save his two-month-old son Jeremy, left untouched in his crib. This is a community with men married to several women and having many kids. Claire was brought up that way but ran away when she was an older teen and married off to someone she didn't want to be married to. So she came back to town in the last book and this one takes off with the community still shunning her while she is trying to investigate and she is getting letters sent to her office to leave town. Her partner is also she was in love with as a teenager and he wants a relationship with her again.

Book Review: Nighttown by Timothy Hallinan

Los Angeles burglar Junior Bender has a rule about never taking a job that pays too well—in the criminal underworld, if someone is offering you more money than a job is worth, someone is going to end up dead. But he’s bending his rule this one time because he and his girlfriend, Ronnie, are in desperate need of cash so they can hire a top-notch kidnapper to snatch Ronnie’s two-year-old son back from her evil ex. The whole thing is pretty complicated, and has Junior on edge.

The parameters of his too-well-paying job do nothing to calm his nerves. A nameless woman in an orange wig has offered Junior fifty grand—twenty-five up front—to break into the abandoned house of a recently deceased 97-year-old recluse, Daisy Horton, and steal a doll from the woman’s collection. Junior knows no doll is worth $50k, so he figures there must be something hidden inside the doll that can get him in a heap of trouble. It takes Junior less time than he would have hoped to realize he’s not the only person looking for the doll. When an old friend ends up murdered, Junior decides he will stop at nothing to figure out who the woman in the orange wig is, and why she wants the doll so bad she’s leaving a trail of bodies in her wake

Nighttown by Timothy Hallinan
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
This is supposed to be a book about a burglar. I guess to me a burglar would go around and case out places and steal from the wealthy. But this character gets hired by someone to steal something that was in a house of someone who had passed away. Ok but Junior Bender spends more time having coffee and pie and dialogue with everyone he knows that I found this story very slow and boring. I wanted to quit reading at 50% but I said no, let's finish the book. at 88% I REALLY wanted to DNF but I figured I got this far that I might as well figure out. Myabe it's because it is the 7th book of this series and I hadn't read the other books.

Book Review: Golden In Death by JD Robb

Pediatrician Kent Abner received the package on a beautiful April morning. Inside was a cheap trinket, a golden egg that could be opened into two halves. When he pried it apart, highly toxic airborne fumes entered his body and killed him.

After Eve Dallas calls the hazmat team and undergoes testing to reassure both her and her husband that she hasn't been exposed it's time to look into Dr. Abner's past and relationships. Not every victim Eve encounters is an angel, but it seems that Abner came pretty close though he did ruffle some feathers over the years by taking stands for the weak and defenseless. While the lab tries to identify the deadly toxin, Eve hunts for the sender. But when someone else dies in the same grisly manner, it becomes clear that she's dealing with either a madman or someone who has a hidden and elusive connection to both victims.

Kent is very well liked. No one would hurt him.
Then another package is delivered and the same thing happens. Again a very liked person, no one would hurt them.
LT Dallas and her team then try to see if there is a connection with the 2 victims. After a lot of research they find the connection. Now to narrow down the suspects. Also I am just hooked on Eve and Roarke. Their relationship keeps getting stronger and Eve's has softened a little bit with the friends she has let into her life without losing being a bad ass.
