About TAKE THE BRIDE:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Carly Phillips comes a new story in her Knight Brothers series…

She used to be his. Now she’s about to marry another man.
Will he let her go … or will he stand up and take the bride?

Ryder Hammond and Sierra Knight were high school sweethearts. Despite him being her brother's best friend, their relationship burned hot and fast…and ended with heartbreak and regrets.

Years later, she’s at the altar, about to marry another man.

He’s only there for closure, to finally put the past behind him.

But when the preacher asks if anyone has a reason the couple shouldn’t wed, she turns around and her gaze locks on his.

Suddenly he’s out of his seat.

Objecting.

Claiming.

And ultimately stealing the very pissed off bride and taking her to a secluded cabin.

He wants one week to convince her they’re meant to be, to remind her of the fiery passion still burning between them.

When their time together is up, will she walk away and break his heart this time, or will he finally have the woman he's wanted all along?

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

                                           MY REVIEW:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This was a short novella that took about an hour to read. Sierra Knight was at the altar when the Preacher asked does anyone have any objections and Ryder Hammond stood up and said I do. They were high school sweethearts and he let her go so she would go and live her dreams but he never got over her. He is also her brother's best friend. The groom walks away and Ryder takes her and says they need to talk. She falls asleep in the car and 2 hours later they are in the Poconos. You do find out about their past and the feelings that are still there. I found this very enjoyable to read. Inkslinger sent this to me for a review.

Excerpt:

Ryder Hammond stared into the eyes of his best friend, who appeared ready to murder him. Next to Sebastian were his two brothers, looking equally furious, and Ryder knew he was in deep shit.
Had he really just objected at Sierra’s wedding?
He began to sweat beneath his suit. But he’d done it, the words had spilled forth, and now he had to dissect why. Ignoring the swearing men beside him, Ryder thought about the moment the big wooden double doors had opened and he’d seen Sierra in her wedding gown.
Her long light brown hair tumbled over her shoulders in perfect curls, her curves showing in her fitted dress, her cleavage just appropriately peeking out from the dipped neckline. Her gorgeous face had glowed as she walked down the aisle to another man.
He’d come today because, as a close family friend, he’d been invited. Because he thought he’d made his peace with the way things had ended between them. And for closure. Once she was married, she’d be lost to him forever. And that was the thought that had run through his head at the moment the priest asked if anyone objected.
He hadn’t planned to open his mouth.
He hadn’t meant to ruin her wedding.
He had intended to watch her be given away to another man and, dammit, be okay with it.
But he wasn’t.
So here they were.
He glanced at her brothers, Sebastian, his closest friend, and Parker, because Ethan had gone after his sister. “I have to talk to her.”
“No f*cking way,” Sebastian said, one palm on his chest, blocking him from moving forward.
“If I knew you’d planned this sh*t, I never would have let you in the door,” said Parker.
Ryder held up both hands. “It wasn’t planned. The words just came out of my mouth. But now that I said them, I need to speak with your sister.” He shoved past the brothers and headed directly for Sierra, who stood talking to the man she was supposed to marry.
His gaze locked with hers but Jason wasn’t having it.
“It’s him.” He pointed, shoving his finger into Ryder’s chest. “It’s always been f*cking him. At every family function, always around.” Jason turned to Sierra. “You wanted him to interrupt the wedding.” He was clearly furious.

Excerpt:

A cellist played Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons” as Sierra Knight’s bridesmaids, her maid of honor, and the flower girl made their way down the aisle in a large church located in the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
Sierra couldn’t see the procession but she’d been at the rehearsal, and she knew what was happening in the sanctuary of the church. From behind closed doors, where she stood with her oldest brother, Ethan, the deep strains of the string instrument reverberated around her, her heart beating hard and fast in her chest.
She smoothed a hand down her fit-and-flair style wedding gown with lace and beading that she’d loved the moment she’d slid it on. The cathedral-length veil in tulle was matched by the long train flowing behind her. She’d never felt more beautiful… or more nervous.
“Are you sure this is what you want?” Ethan asked, obviously reading her nerves as he put a hand on her trembling arm. “The car’s out front, the engine’s running,” he said, half joking, but she heard the serious note in his voice.
As her oldest brother, he was the father figure she’d always needed since their own parent never lived up to the role. Although Alexander Knight was sitting in one of the pews up front with wife number four, he wasn’t the man Sierra wanted walking her down the aisle.  He hadn’t earned that honor nor had he seemed insulted that he hadn’t been asked to play the traditional role.
She thought about Ethan’s question, swallowed hard, and nodded. “Jason is a great guy,” she said, meaning every word.
She’d been with Jason Armstrong, a lawyer, for over a year and she knew him well. They’d met through friends and begun dating soon after. He had a calming presence and he catered to her every desire. He was a kind, decent man.
“I know I’ll have a good life with him,” she reassured her brother, glancing at his strong jaw, which he’d set as he narrowed his gaze.
“I married a woman I thought I knew,” Ethan said, digging into his own pain to make sure Sierra was okay. “Mandy wasn’t who I believed she was. I just want you to be sure you want to marry him.”
Ethan had recently lost his wife to an accidental drug overdose, then gone on to find out she’d been having an affair and stealing from the family company to subsidize her drug addiction. He was not only grieving, he was coming to terms with the betrayal.
But his words now were coming from an honest and good place, one of love. “Don’t get me wrong,” he continued. “I like Jason. We all do,” he said, referring to her two other brothers, Parker and Sebastian. “But are you passionately in love with him?”

Book Review: The Woman in the Blue Cloak by Deon Meyer

The Woman in the Blue Cloak

The Woman in the Blue Cloak is a brilliant novella which will thrill and entertain fans of Deon Meyer's much-loved detective Benny Griessel.
Benny Griessel is a cop on a mission: he plans to ask Alexa Bernard to marry him. That means he needs to buy an engagement ring - and that means he needs a loan.
So Benny has a lot on his mind when he is called to a top-priority murder case. A woman's body is discovered, naked and washed in bleach, draped on a wall beside a picturesque road above Cape Town. The identity of the victim is a mystery, as is the reason for her killing.
Gradually, Benny and his colleague Vaughn Cupido begin to work out the roots of the story, which reach as far away as England and Holland... and as far back as the seventeenth century.

MY REVIEW:
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Book Review: Turbo Twenty-Three by Janet Evanovich

Turbo Twenty-Three (Stephanie Plum, #23)

In the heart of Trenton, N.J., a killer is out to make sure someone gets his just desserts.

Larry Virgil skipped out on his latest court date after he was arrested for hijacking an eighteen-wheeler full of premium bourbon. Fortunately for bounty hunter Stephanie Plum, Larry is just stupid enough to attempt almost the exact same crime again. Only this time he flees the scene, leaving behind a freezer truck loaded with Bogart ice cream and a dead body—frozen solid and covered in chocolate and chopped pecans.

As fate would have it, Stephanie’s mentor and occasional employer, Ranger, needs her to go undercover at the Bogart factory to find out who’s putting their employees on ice and sabotaging the business. It’s going to be hard for Stephanie to keep her hands off all that ice cream, and even harder for her to keep her hands off Ranger. It’s also going to be hard to explain to Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli, why she is spending late nights with Ranger, late nights with Lula and Randy Briggs—who are naked and afraid—and late nights keeping tabs on Grandma Mazur and her new fella. Stephanie Plum has a lot on her plate, but for a girl who claims to have “virtually no marketable skills,” these are the kinds of sweet assignments she does best.

Larry Virgil has missed his court appearance. So Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter is after him. He is found with a truck and a dead body frozen and covered in chocolate. So Ranger has hired her to work at the ice cream factory for clues.
Another fun and fast read. Stephanie still goes back and forth with Ranger and Joe Morelli. The Grandmother has met a man finally and we get more laughs out of that. Even has her dying her hair and riding a motorcycle lol.

But then they are interrupted by Barbara Hume who makes a scene because someone is sitting at the table her family has sat at every year. The family that is sitting there is her frenemy, Tina Nowak. These 2 and their daughters compete at everything. Not to long after that Tina is shot at the tennis courts. Lucy witnesses it and now wants to know who would do this. It looks like Barbara did it but could she have been framed. Then we take a look at the 2 husbands. Meanwhile Lucy's 14 year old daughter seems to be getting bullied and then into some trouble herself. A Mother's job is never done.

Book Review: Fantasy In Death #30 by J.D. Robb

Fantasy in Death (In Death, #30)

Bart Minnock, founder of the computer-gaming giant U-Play, enters his private playroom, and eagerly can't wait to lose himself in an imaginary world, to play the role of a sword-wielding warrior king, in his company's latest top-secret project, Fantastical.

The next morning, he is found in the same locked room, in a pool of blood, his head separated from his body. It is the most puzzling case Eve Dallas has ever faced, and it is not a game. . . .

NYPSD Lieutenant Eve Dallas is having as much trouble figuring out how Bart Minnock was murdered as who did the murdering. The victim's girlfriend seems sincerely grief-stricken, and his quirky-but-brilliant partners at U-Play appear equally shocked. No one seemed to have a prob-lem with the enthusiastic, high-spirited millionaire. Of course, success can attract jealousy, and gaming, like any business, has its fierce rivalries and dirty tricks-as Eve's husband, Roarke, one of U- Play's competitors, knows well. But Minnock was not naive, and quite capable of fighting back in the real world as well as the virtual one.

Eve and her team are about to enter the next level of police work, in a world where fantasy is the ultimate seduction-and the price of defeat is death. . .

                                MY REVIEW:

Fantasy in Death (In Death, #30)Fantasy in Death by J.D. Robb
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Bart Minnock is a founder of a gaming company called U-Play. He goes home after work to lose himself in a game and doesn't come out again. The next morning he is found dead in his locked room. He had been decapitated. His girlfriend is grief stricken and Lieutenant Eve Dallas is trying to figure out who and why. His best friends who also all seem to own part of the company all are devastated. He is liked by everyone and no one seems to have a grudge against him. I think this was my favorite book of this series so far. I liked the gaming concept in this book and all the virtual worlds and V goggles. Also still getting to know all the cops and characters from this series. Even though Eve is a no nonsense kick ass cop she still has feelings and love for her people.

Book Review: More Than Words by Mia Sheridan

More Than Words

No one lays open the heart and soul quite like New York Timesbestselling author Mia Sheridan.

The moment she met Callen Hayes, eleven-year-old Jessica Creswell knew he was a broken prince. Her prince. They became each other's refuge, a safe and magical place far from their troubled lives. Until the day Callen kissed her--Jessica's first real, dreamy kiss—and then disappeared from her life without a word.

Years later, everyone knows who Callen Hayes is. Famous composer. Infamous bad boy. What no one knows is that Callen's music is now locked deep inside, trapped behind his own inner demons. It's only when he withdraws to France to drink his way through the darkness that Callen stumbles into the one person who makes the music return. Jessica. His Jessie. And she still tastes of fresh, sweet innocence . . . even as she sets his blood on fire.

But they don't belong in each other's worlds anymore. There are too many mistakes. Too many secrets. Too many lies. All they have is that instinctive longing, that need—and something that looks dangerously like love.

MY REVIEW:

More Than WordsMore Than Words by Mia Sheridan
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book wrecked me. If I could give it more than 5 stars then I would. We start out reading of Callen and Jessica when they are 11 and 12. She is reading a fantasy book about princes and princesses and stumbles upon Callen, They both are running away from their family life and they keep meeting back at the boxcar until 1 day Callen stops showing up. Then 10 years later Jessica is living in Paris, which was her dream. Callen is a music composer but they haven't seen each other until now. This book had me laughing and crying and angry at times. Jessica uncovering the story of Joan of Arc while coming to terms of her past and her relationship with Callen. We learn of Callen's past and how far he has come and the demons he must slay. I read this book in 1 sitting because it was that good.

The Highland Guardian (Lords of the Highlands, #3)The Highland Guardian by Amy Jarecki
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is the 3rd book of the series. Captain Reid MacKenzie is Earl of Seaforth. During a Battle at sea he has to make a promise to a dying man. Please watch over his daughter. As Reid is on his way to meet her he thinks he can send her to boarding school and when of age find a suitor for her and marry her off. But when he gets there he is surprised that she is 19. Audrey is so upset when Reid tells her that her father is dead and now she is his ward. She lets him and her dad's lawyer know that she can take care of herself and her dad's business. She is worth a lot and Reid does not want her taken advantage of. There is a man who comes forward to claim he is a male heir and will wed Audrey. But he is nothing but a snake and a liar and Reid and Audrey need to take him down before a lot of damage is done.
Audrey and Reid are meant for each other and it was fun seeing them fight for each other.
