Book review: Home at Chestnut Creek by Laura Drake

Home at Chestnut Creek / Wild Cowboy Ways

First rule of life on the run: never get attached. Nevada Sweet knows that better than anyone-it's just too dangerous to stay put. And until now, she's never wanted to. But she gets more than she bargained for when she walks into the Chestnut Creek Café looking for a job. Despite the protective wall she's built, her coworker Joseph has her imagining a life she isn't yet convinced she deserves...

While Unforgiven, New Mexico has always been home, Joseph "Fishing Eagle" King still feels like an outsider-no matter how much he tries to give back to his Navajo community. Beneath Nevada's biting wit, he glimpses a similar vulnerability. Against all odds, Joseph finds himself falling for her, and it's clear she's not as unaffected as she pretends. When her past finally catches up with her, she'll have to decide whether to keep running, or fight for what's hers.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Nevada Sweet was a character in the first book of this series. Tough and on the run. She shows up at Carly's diner looking for a job. she wants to be a cook but Fish has that job. We know why Nevada is on the run and we root for her. she came from a rough life and needs to make a new life and let go of some of her anger and resentment. She starts showing a softer side of herself.
Fish is struggling with his heritage. He wants to meet a woman from the same heritage and settle down but something from his past keeps him at arms length with his people. But when he meets Nevada he gets close to her and fights his feelings for her because she is not from his heritage. But he starts teaching her.
I loved these 2 together and learning things from their past and Nevada finding herself in this town.

Book review: The Last True Cowboy by Laura Drake

The Last True Cowboy (Chestnut Creek, #1)

This cowboy's got one last chance to prove himself.

Carly Beauchamp has loved cowboy Austin Davis since first grade. Ask anyone in their dusty, backwater New Mexico town of Unforgiven, and they'll say "Carly and Austin" the way some say "big trucks and country boys." But after years of waiting for a wedding ring, Carly's done with being a rodeo widow . . .

Austin never meant to put his career on the circuit before Carly. She's always been his future, his one and only. But now that she's moved on, he's beginning to see where he went wrong, and he'll do anything to win her back. The only thing is, Carly's suddenly acting differently, and she's definitely hiding a secret-one that will test the depth of their love and open up a whole new world of possibilities.

                        MY REVIEW:

Carly and Austin have been best friends since they were little kids and been dating and in love since teenagers. They, along with everyone else think they are the perfect couple and will end up married.
Austin is on the rodeo circuit and keeps putting that first instead of Carly. After several years of his promising that he will come home for good and settle down, she gets fed up with the empty promises and calls it off for good.
She is heartbroken and determined to move on. So she goes to another town and gets drunk, and has a one night stand with a stranger. Now she is back home and wanting to turn her life into something she wants to do.
Austin runs into her and notices that something is off and she tells him she has changed. But the love is still there.
Austin has decided at 29 that he needs to go back home for good and settle down but Carly just wants to be friends.
A few things have changed and after confessing to Austin he gets mad and takes awhile for him to come back around to be friends again.
I loved the characters in this story and Carly was raised by her grandparents and they are always there for her no matter what.
I received this from Forever and NetGalley for an honest review.

Book review: Tough Luck Cowboy by A.J. Pine

Tough Luck Cowboy (Crossroads Ranch, #2)

The only girl he ever wanted was the one he could never have.

What's the saying, bad luck comes in threes? If so, Lily Green is due for something good. First, her divorce is finalized—on her birthday, no less. Then the first job she lands for her catering company turns out to be for her ex-husband's wedding. To top it off, she's stuck working the event with Luke Everett, the sexy-as-hell best man who's never been able to stand her. When can a girl catch a break?

For years, Luke has kept his feelings for Lily safely hidden. Hitting on his best friend's ex-wife would definitely break the cowboy code of honor. But ever since an injury sidelined his rodeo riding, the two of them keep getting thrown together. It's only a matter of time until his true feelings come to light. When that happens, it will either be the biggest mistake of his life, or a sign that his luck is about to change.

Tough Luck Cowboy (Crossroads Ranch, #2)Tough Luck Cowboy by A.J. Pine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Lily Green has not had a great day. Her divorce was finalized on her birthday and then she accepts a catering job for her ex and his fiance. Then she also will be seeing her ex's best friend who she has had an oil and water relationship from the beginning. Luke got hurt in the rodeo and was told that if he gets hurt again with another concussion he may not be the same. Severe brain damage could happen. So while he is resting up , him and Lily keep getting thrown together. We find out about the night he met Lily and his feelings for her since. We also find out what kind of person Lily is and how she runs from complications. The one thing she can't understand is why Luke wants to do the next rodeo before he retires no matter if he gets hurt because he doesn't intend to get hurt. We also read more about his brother Jake from the first book of the series and his other brother Walker. I enjoyed getting to know more of Luke and meeting Lily in this book.

Book Review: Cowboy Brave by Carolyn Brown

Cowboy Brave

TWO BOOKS IN ONE! AN ALL-NEW CAROLYN BROWN BOOK, PLUS SECOND CHANCE COWBOY BY A.J. PINE.

This city girl's about to get a dose of cowboy charmEmily Baker doesn't rough it - anymore. Born and raised on a farm, she's worked hard to distance herself from that life, thank you very much. But when the seniors at the nursing home where she works beg for a ranch retreat, she caves and heads up to the Longhorn Canyon spread. With one glance at the sexy cowboy who opens the door, she's suddenly thinking a week with him might not be so bad after all.
Justin Maguire doesn't quite know what to do with the gorgeous woman who shows up on his doorstep. She's all curves and confidence-even after stepping in a cow pile. Too bad she's determined not to fall for a cowboy. But with the help of five nosy, matchmaking seniors, he might just convince her he's worth the risk.
SECOND CHANCE COWBOY Once a cowboy, always a cowboy! Jack Everett can handle working on the ranch, but turning around the failing vineyard he's also inherited? That requires working with the woman he never expected to see again.

                                                              MY REVIEW:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the 3rd book of the series so I knew it had to be a romance for Justin this time around. Emily works at a retirement home and when the Fab Five, as they call themselves ask to go to a ranch for a week she calls on Longhorn Canyon. Little do they know she was raised on a farm. And one of the most highly acclaimed farms worth a lot of money. She never lets other guys know that because they always see $ signs. She is also a curvy woman and doesn't think a cowboy will really be interested in her. When she meets Justin there is attraction right away. She doesn't tell him where she is really from or her family.
This book had me laughing so hard because of the antics of the Fab Five who live in the retirement home. The things they got up to on that ranch for the week had me in stitches.
The only person in the book I did not like was Justin's mom. The way she treated Emily because of her size and didn't think someone like her could get anyone so would be out for Justin for his ranch and money. I was appalled by her behavior.
There is also another bonus book by another author in this book but I have not read that yet.

Book Review: Cowboy Honor by Carolyn Brown

Cowboy Honor (Longhorn Canyon #2)

New York Times bestselling author Carolyn Brown delivers a sweet cowboy romance with a heart bigger than Texas itself.

This knight in shining armor wears cowboy boots
Patience was never one of her virtues. After her SUV runs off the road in the middle of a Texas blizzard and her cell stops working, Claire Mason is about to snap. Getting back home to Oklahoma with her four-year-old niece is top priority. And lucky for her, help comes in the form of a true Texas cowboy...

Levi Jackson has always been a sucker for strays. So he can't help getting involved when he comes across Claire and her little niece shivering in the cold. By offering them a place to stay until her car is fixed, he can make sure the two are taken care of - and get to know the sassy Claire better.

What starts as something awkward and temporary starts feeling cozier by the minute. And soon Levi is hoping he can convince Claire she has a permanent place in his heart.

Plus, bonus story "O Little Town of Bramble" by Katie Lane!
All Ethan Miller wants for Christmas is to celebrate in Bramble, Texas, with family and friends. But when his childhood neighbor comes home for the holiday, Ethan realizes that the girl-next-door could be the girl of his dreams.

                                                                MY REVIEW:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the 2nd book in the Longhorn Canyon series. This book is with Levi , who is the ranch foreman. Claire and her niece, Zaylie got in a accident during a snow storm. They weren't hurt but they are out in the middle of nowhere. They end up finding a cabin and whole up there for the night. While there Levi shows up and Claire pulls out a gun on the intruder. He tells her don't shoot and tries to get them to trust him. Gets a fire going for them and feeds them. Since her vehicle in totalled and they can't get to town for a few days, Levi takes them to the main house at the ranch. You could see the sparkle between them from the beginning and Zaylie fell in love with Levi and compares him to God lol. She fall in love with all of the animals on the farm. Claire helps out the owners as the wife has morning sickness really bad and can't stand the smell of food so Claire does what she can and fits right in. I love how this family is all there for each other and I did read the first book and will continue to read the series. I received this from #Forever for review.

Cowboy Bold by Carolyn Brown review

Cowboy Bold (Longhorn Canyon #1)

Every summer Cade Maguire looks forward to opening his Longhorn Canyon Ranch to underprivileged city kids. But this year, he's having no luck finding a counselor for the children-until Retta Palmer walks through his door.
Flat broke after selling everything she owns to pay her father's medical bills, Retta is thrilled to hear of an opening for a counselor position. She's not as thrilled about the ranching part, or the sexy cowboy with beautiful blue eyes who's her new boss.
After being left at the altar two years before by his fiancée, Cade isn't sure he can take another heartbreak. And Retta isn't even sure she wants to stay. But the sparks between them are absolutely undeniable. And with a couple of lovable kids and two elderly folks playing matchmaker, Cade and Retta may find that the best way to heal is with each other.

My Thoughts:
Cowboy Bold (Longhorn Canyon #1)Cowboy Bold by Carolyn Brown
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Longhorn Canyon Ranch has a summer camp every year for underprivileged city kids. What starts out with kids from tough backgrounds and chips on their shoulders , ends up being the best time for 8 kids. They learn to be a team and to help each other from doing bales if hay to weeding and pulling veggies from the garden. Also helping to cook meals and set a table. Riding horses and camping out. I loved the romance between Cade and Retta. Can they make their relationship work when she goes back to the city? I had a lof of fun reading this book. Even though I would not want to live on a farm and do all that hard work, I appreciate what goes into it.
