Book Blitz: Melissa & Kasho by Camilla Chance

YA Fantasy, YA Paranormal

  Publisher: Austin Macauley Publishers

photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

  1958- 59 Florence Italy

Melissa, a shy parentally abused teenage girl, feels lost in a
transnational high society world that drives her to the depths of
    despair.

But her attraction to the very human Kasho, who has snippets of philosophy
to impart, eventually enables her to develop her own strengths.

But Kasho doesn't dwell physically on Earth.

Melissa's realistic story traverses class, gender, and power dynamics. She
is expected to walk or is bullied into walking, a certain path required of
her class, including marrying a certain man.

It's only when she connects with Kasho, a native man whose values are
in-line with hers, that she finds a kindred spirit who truly sees her.

In an age of bullying and teen suicide, the resonating lesson throughout
the story is "There is always a way of making your life
    better."

But how will she and her best friend, Daisy, find it?

About the Author

Camilla Chance has always been a writer. She was born in 1940 and lived in
London, where, when she was 18, her first novel was accepted by a then-large
publishing company for publication. Although her father forced her to
withdraw from this contract as she was still legally his
“property” until she was 21, the writing bug never left her. Her
family moved to Australia and she graduated in Arts from Melbourne
University. When she was 22, she became a member of the Baha’i faith,
and its spiritualism and acceptance have influenced her subsequent writing
    as well.

Camilla has had many interesting and varied occupations. She’s been a
lyricist for an international performing group The Kuban Cossacks, a high
school teacher, and an editor for Faber & Faber Publishers in London.
Upon returning to Australia, she wrote book reviews for two prestigious
Australian newspapers – The Age and The Australian. And she also
married and became a mother as well.

Camilla has also been an advocate for Australia’s indigenous peoples,
in part because of her Baha’i faith’s belief in unity and also
because of her extraordinary 27 year friendship with Banjo Clark. Banjo
Clarke’s life and teaching were the crux of her best-selling
Australian book, Wisdom Man. Camilla took the highlights of her friendship
with Banjo and created a book that was an instant best seller in Australia,
and in its second edition won American USABookNews.com Award for best
multicultural work. It also gained Honorable Mention at the London Book
Festival. Camilla was also the first non-Aboriginal to receive the
prestigious Unsung Hero Award from Aboriginal people for her dedicated
friendship and work for them “behind the scenes.”

Melissa and Kasho,2018 and is a young adult novel set in the transition
period of 1959. It’s a fantasy, love story, with a heavy dose of rock
and roll, taking place in Florence Italy.

Currently, Camilla is at work on her autobiography, a companion piece to
the Australian Bestselling Wisdom Man, called WARRUMYEA: THE LEFT-HANDED
    WOMAN

Book Review: The Void of Muirwood by Jeff Wheeler

The Void of Muirwood (Covenant of Muirwood, #3)

When banished Princess Maia is captured by her father and threatened with execution, it appears that all is lost…until the people rise in rebellion against their king. Suddenly, the cast-aside royal finds herself crowned the first Queen of Comoros. But enemies appear on all sides as her father’s conniving supporters assemble a new army against the fledgling ruler. While Maia struggles to keep the peace within her own walls, she rushes to form historical alliances with her neighboring kingdoms against an impending invasion of the ruthless Naestors—led by the cruel Corriveaux—who will destroy anyone Maia loves in order to ruin her kingdom and prevent the mastons from regaining power.
Realizing that Muirwood Abbey is once again her only hope for survival, Maia gathers her people there for protection. When she discovers an adversary greater than she’s ever known, she must use all the magic, strength, and wisdom gained from her life’s trials to prevent the Void that would bring destruction to herself, her true love, and the entire kingdom.

MY REVIEW:

My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Princess Maia was banished by her father and then was captured by him. He threatens to execute her if she does not abide by his rules and believe in him. The people do not want him to be king and then all of a sudden Maia is Queen. She has many enemies as there has never been a Queen before and they were supporters of her father. While she works with the people in her kingdom and make the wrongs all right from the cruelty of her father, she is fighting many enemies to come and destroy her. Maia gathers her people to Muirwood Abbey where they will be safer. As she is working with the magic within her and around her to fight against the people who want to do harm.
This story is full of friendship, love, betrayal and so many other emotions that it was hard to put down. I did find it a little slow at a couple of points and sometimes had to reread a couple of sections but overall I did enjoy the book.

Book Review: The Banished of Muirwood by Jeff Wheeler

The Banished of Muirwood (Covenant of Muirwood, #1)

In a stand-alone series set in the world of Muirwood, eighteen-year-old Maia is the exiled princess of Comoros and heir to the throne. As a result of her father’s ceaseless need for authority, she was left disinherited and forced to live as a servant in her enemy’s home. When the king invites chaos into the land by expelling the magical order known as the Dochte Mandar, Maia finds herself on a perilous quest to save her people. To survive, she must use magic she has learned in secret—despite the fact that women are forbidden to control it. Hunted by enemies at every turn, Maia realizes that danger lurks within her, too. Her powers threaten to steal not only her consciousness but also her sense of right and wrong. Can she set herself free and save the realm she loves—even if that realm has forgotten her?

The Banished of Muirwood (Covenant of Muirwood, #1)The Banished of Muirwood by Jeff Wheeler
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
18 year old Maia is a exiled princess and heir to the throne. Her father needs all power and authority so she was left disinherited and was made to live as a servant in her own home. Maia has learned she has magic and must save her people. I loved the storyline but listened to this instead of reading it and got lost a little bit until I realised that she must have been in different realms and she was seeing different outcomes.

The Reader by Traci Chee review

The Reader (Sea of Ink and Gold, #1)The Reader by Traci Chee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Sefia lives her life on the run. After her father is viciously murdered, she flees to the forest with her aunt Nin, the only person left she can trust. They survive in the wilderness together, hunting and stealing what they need, forever looking over their shoulders for new threats. But when Nin is kidnapped, Sefia is suddenly on her own, with no way to know who’s taken Nin or where she is. Her only clue is a strange rectangular object that once belonged to her father left behind, something she comes to realize is a book.
Reading is unheard of in Sefia's world. She learns how to read the book and it's meaning and she needs to keep it safe. It also may help her find Nin, who like an Aunt to her. She also needs to find out what happened the day her dad was killed and what happened to her mom. She runs into pirates and more questions are asked. Then she finds everything she want and knows the truth and it isn't always as it seemed.
I liked getting to know Sefia and Archer. The book was fast paced and seemed to have 2 stories entwining into 1.
I received the from edelweiss for review.
