Lies by T.M. Logan review

LiesLies by T.M. Logan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Joe Lynch stumbles across his wife driving into a hotel car park while she's supposed to be at work, he's intrigued enough to follow her in.

And when he witnesses her in an angry altercation with family friend Ben, he knows he ought to intervene.

But just as the confrontation between the two men turns violent, and Ben is knocked unconscious, Joe's young son has an asthma attack - and Joe must flee in order to help him.

When he returns, desperate to make sure Ben is OK, Joe is horrified to find that Ben has disappeared.

And that's when Joe receives the first message . . .

Wow! Fast paced and very intriguing. I could not stop reading. Who is lying and who isn't. We are reading this in Joe's perspective and what he is doing. Ben has a very bad reputation for being ruthless and getting what he wants. Joe is an English teacher and very mild mannered. When the police start questioning him and he finds himself under investigation then Joe feels he has no choice but to take his clues and investigate on his own. With his marriage on the line and a son who is also scared but who joe will do anything for, this book keeps you on the edge of your seat.

The Secrets We Keep by Kate Hewitt review

The Secrets We KeepThe Secrets We Keep by Kate Hewitt
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Tessa arrives at the little house by the lake with her two children Ben and Katherine, it is an escape. For all of them. Never mind that the rental house is a bit small – it’s theirs for the summer. A place to hide…

Their isolation is disrupted when they meet the family from the big house next door. Three children Charlotte, Zoe and Max and their glamorous mother Rebecca – who seems absolutely determined to invite Tessa in to their lives.

But Rebecca is harbouring a dark secret of her own. One that will put not only her family at risk, but Tessa’s too. And when she discovers she has no option but to leave her children for several weeks, Tessa feels like the only person she can trust.

Suddenly Tessa finds herself living a life she could only have dreamed of. Wealth, a large brood of children, and Rebecca’s handsome husband Josh visiting at weekends.

But even as powerful bonds are forming between them, secrets have a way of catching up with people. And as the summer comes to an end, who will learn to love again and who will risk losing everything?

Wow! A very emotional read. First of all both of the women in this book needed each other at this time to deal with whatever their demons are. Rebecca's problems get worse and her husband puts matters into his own hands and Tessa is the one to pick up the pieces. The children all had some kind of emotional baggage because of their moms and they have to deal with that. One frightful evening turns both of their lives upside down. Can they get through this and keep the relationship they formed.
The author kept mentioning the finger lakes but never what lake it was but since I went to school to Geneseo and lived on Conesus Lake during that time then I knew that had to be the lake she was talking about. SO yes Geneseo has a big Walmart and a Bear fountain in the middle of main street. The only things they don't have is a yacht club or a country club that was described. There are only 2 country clubs and they only have golf and restaurants, No pool or tennis so I did have to remember this book was also fiction. Also the mention of Seabreeze amusement park and the Jack Rabbit roller coaster brought back childhood memories. Why they had to go to a spa all the way in Syracuse that was 2 hours away instead of Rochester, which is 30 minutes away didn't make sense either but then again I was thinking of things I would do that was closer.

I received this from NetGalley and Bookouture for an honest review.

Vampires Like It Hot Blog Tour

New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands brings the heat in this new Argeneau novel, as one woman is rescued by an irresistible immortal …

“Vampires…”

When Raffaele Notte pulls a barely dressed, disoriented woman from the ocean, the last thing he expects is for her to utter that word. The immortal has come to the island resort to help his cousin, but now, it seems, there are rogue vampires dining on unsuspecting tourists. And he soon realizes that not only is Jess a target, she’s also the life mate he’s been waiting for…

Vampires are real. Jess would’ve never believed it until she saw them with her own eyes. She knows she has to get off the island, and her gallant rescuer has offered to help. There’s something about Raffaele that’s unlike any man she has ever met, and his touch sends pleasure through her that is beyond all imagining. But when Jess discovers who he really is, will she risk life as she knows it for a chance of forever by his side?

MY THOUGHTS:

Very steamy and sexy. When Jess is picked up by the Vampire pirates she is appalled by what she sees. Then the captain wants her to be his lifemate but the language and his lack of hygiene turns her off only to escape right into the arms of Raffaele. We all know who he and his cousins are but she doesn't. As she becomes dependent on him and his cousins we see the relationship form. We also find that they do not consider themselves vampires but immortals. A difference. The only thing that bugged me is at the beginning Raffaele is on the beach under an umbrella and says he can't go in the sun. But throughout the rest of the book they are walking in daylight.

Hunting Houses by Franny Britt review

Hunting HousesHunting Houses by Fanny Britt
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Tessa is a thirty-seven-year-old real estate agent living in Montreal. She adores her husband and three young sons, but she’s deeply unhappy and questioning the set of choices that have led to her present life.

After a surprising run-in with Francis, her ex-boyfriend and first love, Tessa arranges to see him. During the three days before their meeting, she goes about her daily life — there’s swimming lessons, science projects, and dirty dishes. As the day of her meeting with Francis draws closer she has to decide if she is willing to disrupt her stable, loving family life for an uncertain future with him.

What can I say? BORING!! by the time I got to the end of the book I could care less about Tess. This book was so slow and so boring I wanted to stop reading. Jumping from one subject to another drove me nuts. I couldn't tell what she was talking about. So she has a good marriage, 3 beautiful sons who are about perfect. A Real Estate career and a husband who adores her. I wanted to shout out to her to grow up and shut the F up.

The Goodnight Song by Nick Hollis review

The Goodnight Song (Detective Rhodes and Radley #2)The Goodnight Song by Nick Hollin
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Gifted criminal profiler Nathan Radley has a unique way of thinking that allows him to empathize with the twisted killers he helps capture.

But Nathan a dark secret. He has more in common with the criminals he hunts than anyone could dare to imagine. He lives in constant fear of losing control of his own dark desires...

When the headless body of a policeman is dragged from the Thames – an exact enactment of one of his oldest and darkest fantasies, only ever confessed in the pages of his teenage diary – Nathan finds himself the main suspect in the most twisted case of his career.

Someone has his diary and is leaking pages to frame him for the disturbing murders he has spent his whole career trying not to commit.

As more bodies surface and more extracts are released, Nathan has no choice but to go in search of the killer to clear his name. He knows it’s someone dangerous, he knows it’s someone he trusted, but how many precious lives will be lost before he can work out who?

Ok wow, so many characters and who to choose from of who did it. Who is writing the blog? So many questions and tooks so long to find answers. I did not read the first book but I felt like I learned enough to know what was going on in this book. Nathan and Katie are messed up emotionally and physically from their past. Hiding away from everything and everyone I think made things worse. But someone has found them and now it up to them to figure out who.

My Thoughts:
I loved Indy. She goes after what she wants even if it is a man's world and to hell with everyone. As her and Raven start to get close again, just to find some stolen relics, you know that their feelings will get in the way. They are put in danger twice with them backing up each other. Raven can't stand another man touching her but yet says he doesn't want her. This was a fun story and I am glad that I got the chance to read it.

Return to the Little Cottage on the HillReturn to the Little Cottage on the Hill by Emma Davies
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It has been a difficult few years for thirty-year-old Megan Forrester, completing her apprenticeship and trying to maintain a long-distance relationship with her gorgeous boyfriend, Liam.

She’s returned home to compete in a local craft competition. The prize is the chance to design beautiful new gates for the estate at the bottom of the hill, a job which could secure her future in the village forever.

As the contest gets underway, Megan is devastated when a rival design turns out to be almost identical to hers. Someone in the close-knit community must have leaked her sketches, but who? Is it the same person spreading heartbreaking rumors about Liam?

There is quite a few different characters all taking care of a Joy's Acre Farm and all the changes to make it successful and now a TV production company wants to come in and friendships are put on the line. I really like everyone and how they stick up for each other and have each other back.

October Kiss by Kristen Ethridge review

October Kiss: Based on the Hallmark Channel Original MovieOctober Kiss: Based on the Hallmark Channel Original Movie by Kristen Ethridge
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Poppy’s tried a lot of things. Yoga instruction. Pizza making. So far, none of them have seemed like her thing. Still, she doesn’t have to know where her life is headed to live it with enthusiasm.

Ever since his wife’s death, Ryan’s thrown himself into his work. Launching a successful new app will secure his children’s future…even if it means he can’t spend much time with them now.

As a short-term nanny for Ryan’s children, Poppy brings some much-needed fun and laughter. She’s never been one to commit, so why is she feeling so attached to these children…and even more, to their dad? Could it be she’s found her place at last?

Poppy is such a fun character and how she makes the kids feel is a warm feeling. But as she starts falling for Ryan and he starts falling for her things get complicated by Ryan's associate who is very interested in Ryan. This story made you want to be there and be a part of all the fun shopping for Halloween decorations and pumpkins. Putting up all the decorations and making costumes. I do remember watching this Hallmark movie and enjoying it.

The Boy At The Door by Alex Dahl review

The Boy at the DoorThe Boy at the Door by Alex Dahl
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Cecilia Wilborg has it all--a loving husband, two beautiful daughters, and a gorgeous home in an affluent Norwegian suburb. And she works hard to keep it all together. Too hard...

There is no room for mistakes in her life. Even taking home a little boy whose parents forgot to pick him up at the pool can put a crimp in Cecilia's carefully planned schedule. Especially when she arrives at the address she was given
and finds an empty, abandoned house...

There's nothing for Cecilia to do but to take the boy home with her, never realizing that soon his quiet presence and knowing eyes will trigger unwelcome memories from her past--and unravel her meticulously crafted life...

I felt this book was slow for me. I couldn't connect with any of the characters. I did not feel bad for Cecilia at all. Everything that ever comes out of her mouth is lies. One lie leads to more. If she had been upfront and honest at the first mistake then her life would have been way better. The only ones I felt bad for were the children.

A Stranger In The House by Shari Lapena review

A Stranger in the HouseA Stranger in the House by Shari Lapena
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Karen and Tom Krupp are happy—they’ve got a lovely home in upstate New York, they’re practically newlyweds, and they have no kids to interrupt their comfortable life together. But one day, Tom returns home to find Karen has vanished—her car’s gone and it seems she left in a rush. She even left her purse—complete with phone and ID—behind.

There's a knock on the door—the police are there to take Tom to the hospital where his wife has been admitted. She had a car accident, and lost control as she sped through the worst part of town.

The accident has left Karen with a concussion and a few scrapes. Still, she’s mostly okay—except that she can’t remember what she was doing or where she was when she crashed. The cops think her memory loss is highly convenient, and they suspect she was up to no good.

Karen returns home with Tom, determined to heal and move on with her life. Then she realizes something’s been moved. Something’s not quite right. Someone’s been in her house. And the police won't stop asking questions.

Because in this house, everyone’s a stranger. Everyone has something they’d rather keep hidden. Something they might even kill to keep quiet.

Wow, so much going on in this book. A neighbor as a stalker and in love with her neighbor and will do anything to get him. I really liked Tom even though I did get a little upset with the behavior with his neighbor. Karen, I never really knew what to believe. But the very end there is a twist that will have your mouth drop open. I highly recommend this book.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Andrea knows everything about her mother, Laura. Andrea is on a desperate journey following the breadcrumb trail of her mother’s past. And if she can’t uncover the secrets hidden there, there may be no future for either one of them. . . .

It All Comes Back to YouIt All Comes Back to You by Beth Duke
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The hidden ties that bind our lives together are the most intriguing. This is a story full of secret, silken threads between many people.

Meet Violet.

She was stunningly beautiful. She was like a grandmother to Ronni. She inspired her every day.

She spent her final years in a nursing home, surrounded by men who worshipped her as a girl. They still did.

Everybody loved her.

And now that she’s gone, she’s challenged Ronni to be the author she always wanted to be, by writing Violet’s life story.

That’s when the threads start to unwind.

Wow, great story. Loved Ronni but was scared that her new boyfriend might not be the person we think he is. Going back in time to learn about Violet was also great and learning who the person she was. She had a lot of loves in her life and lost the ones she should have had. But the one who loved her the most will come as a shock. Ronni uncovers a lot of Violets past which also leads her to new friends. Can Ronni meet the expectations that Violet put in her will?

Christmas In Evergreen by Nancy Naigle book review

Christmas In EvergreenChristmas In Evergreen by Nancy Naigle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A snowy small town.

A snow globe that grants wishes.

A love that’s meant to be.

Evergreen, Vermont is about to be in the rearview mirror of Allie Shaw’s vintage red pickup truck. It’s hard to say goodbye to her small town and her veterinarian practice, but she’s moving to Washington D.C., where her big-city-loving boyfriend lives.

Ever since Ryan Bellamy’s wife died, he hardly knows how to celebrate Christmas. He’s decided to take his daughter Zoe to Florida, and Evergreen is just a quick stop on the way to the airport. While they’re there, Zoe partakes in a local tradition, making a Christmas wish on the snow globe at the town diner.

But neither Allie’s nor Ryan’s Christmas goes as planned. They’ve checked their wish lists twice, and they didn’t say anything about meeting someone new…or about a fresh chance at love.

As their flights keep getting cancelled due to the weather Allie gets to know Ryan and Zoe. They spend a lot of time together and Allie shows Ryan how Christmas should be and Zoe has the best time . Allie also needs to decide should she move to DC or just stay in Evergreen , where her heart is. I do remember seeing this movie on Hallmark and I think the book and movie are pretty well the same.

A Christmas To Remember by Rebecca Moesta review

A Christmas to Remember: Based on the Hallmark Channel Original MovieA Christmas to Remember: Based on the Hallmark Channel Original Movie by Rebecca Moesta
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jennifer needs a break. The perfectionist TV star heads to a mountain retreat for a restful, relaxing holiday. But when she gets caught in a blizzard and crashes her car, Jennifer is left with more than a wreck; she’s left with amnesia.

John, a small-town veterinarian and single dad, finds the confused Jennifer wandering on the road. He’s used to taking care of others; he’s built for this. When he takes her in, he and his children give her more than shelter…they try to help her figure out who she is.

As Jennifer and John make new memories, their connection to one another grows. But how can they even think about romance when they don’t know her true identity?

If you love Hallmark Christmas movies then this is a must read. It is a feel good book. Jennifer doesn't remember her name or have any memories of her life. John and his kids take her in and start falling for her as she does for their family. As they make new memories she helps heal John's family. I loved the characters in this book and all the Christmas memories in it.

Ghost Virus by Graham Masterton review

Ghost VirusGhost Virus by Graham Masterton
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Samira was a young woman with her whole life ahead of her. What could have brought her to this? DC Jerry Pardoe and DS Jamila Patel of Tooting Police suspect it's suicide. But then a meek husband kills his wife, and the headteacher of the local school throws her pupils out of a window. It's no longer a random outbreak of horrific crimes. It's a deadly virus. And it's spreading. Somehow, ordinary Londoners are being infected with an insatiable lust to murder. All of the killers were wearing second-hand clothes. Could these garments be possessed by some supernatural force?

The death count is multiplying. Now Jerry and Jamila must defeat the ghost virus, before they are all infected...

Seems that clothes have been possessed and on a killing spree. This book is very gory but well written. I did enjoy the story but felt it was dragged just a little bit. Also the ending left you hanging. I have heard of Graham Masterton but I had not read any of this books before. I was given this book from the publisher for a review.

Since her husband died, Eden Wallace's life has diminished down to a tiny pinprick, like a far-off star in the night sky. She doesn't work, has given up on her love of photography, and is so plagued by night terrors that she can't sleep without the lights on. Everyone, including her family, has grown weary of her grief. So when she finds paperwork in her husband's effects indicating that he reserved a week at a dark sky park, she goes. She's ready to shed her fear and return to the living, even if it means facing her paralyzing phobia of the dark.

But when she arrives at the park, the guest suite she thought was a private retreat is teeming with a group of twenty-somethings, all stuck in the orbit of their old college friendships. Horrified that her get-away has been taken over, Eden decides to head home the next day. But then a scream wakes the house in the middle of the night. One of the friends has been murdered. Now everyone—including Eden—is a suspect.

Everyone is keeping secrets, but only one is a murderer. As mishaps continue to befall the group, Eden must make sense of the chaos and lies to evade a ruthless killer—and she'll have to do it before dark falls…

I read this all in one day because I really wanted to know who the murderer was and what all the secrets were that the friends were keeping. You also find out that Eden's marriage wasn't all that great and how she was manipulated throughout the marriage and now her own sister is trying to control her life. Will Eden live the life she wants and come to turns with the dark and actually find a job/career that she wants.

Hometown Girl Again by Kerstin Fullmer book review

Hometown Girl Again (Hometown Series Book 5)Hometown Girl Again by Kirsten Fullmer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

How did I end up so broken? It’s a question Katherine can’t answer. First, a surprise inheritance tipped her life upside-down, and now her new RV park is a muddy mess of half-restored trailers. To make matters worse, she’s falling for her first crush all over again. The only thing she’s sure of at this point is a full-blown identity crisis.

Alex came home after a life-threatening wound ended his Army career. Now Katie is back too, and she’s building something called a glamping park? He feels like he let her down years ago, can he make it up to her now? Or are his own problems too much to handle?

Fate brought Katherine and Alex back to Smithville, and the town-folk want to see them together again. Will the couple be able to cope with the locals well-intentioned meddling, or did their chance at love disappear a long time ago...

I thought this was a fun and quick read. I got to know about RV Parks and what it takes to restore all the old Rvs from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Katie and Alex had a love affair the summer they graduated and then he broke up with her to join the Army. She left town and her mother had died. Katie had turned into a hermit and not having friends. So when her uncle passed away and she found out about the inheritance then she moved back to town. Only to run into Alex again. Watching these 2 struggle with their emotions was heartbreaking at times as you knew they still cared about each other.

The Girlfriend by Michelle Frances

The GirlfriendThe Girlfriend by Michelle Frances
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Laura Cavendish can’t wait to meet the woman who’s won her son’s affection. Despite a successful career in television and a long, prosperous marriage, Laura’s world revolves around kind, talented Daniel. She pictures his new girlfriend, Cherry, becoming a close friend and confidante . . . one day, even a daughter-in-law.

But although Cherry is beautiful and amiable, Laura can’t warm to her. There’s something about the possessive way she touches Daniel, the little lies Laura detects. Cherry seems to resent Laura, driving a wedge between mother and son—until one day Daniel is injured in a terrible accident. Six months later, with Daniel still in a coma and facing death, Laura makes a fateful decision—and carries out an astonishing deceit.

A handsome doctor for a husband, with a trust fund and a family villa in St. Tropez—it was all supposed to be Cherry’s. Now, instead of living with Daniel in his impeccable home, she’s jobless and broke. And then Cherry discovers Laura’s stunning deception. But Cherry is too clever, too ambitious to let her get away with it. She’s already transformed herself into Daniel’s dream woman. Now she’ll become Laura’s worst nightmare.

My thoughts. Laura did try to like Cherry at first but didn't trust her and she made mistakes and should have known it would lead to problems. Cherry is so demented that I wanted something to happen to her from the start. I was disturbed by the fact Laura had a cat, which she professed to love so much. But they had a fox hanging around the yard through the whole book and yet she continued to let the cat out. That just pissed me off. Plus with Cherry acting the way she did then I would not have let my cat outside either. Being a cat lover, this part did upset me on Laura's behavior. Laura also has all this money, and a career but a dead marriage so why is she hanging on, not like she can't afford to live on her own.

Dear Santa by Nancy Naigle book review

Dear SantaDear Santa by Nancy Naigle
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Angela Carson wants nothing more than to be the third-generation to run her family’s holiday store, Heart of Christmas, successfully. They’ve weathered over sixty tourist seasons, major hurricanes, and urban sprawl, in their old decommissioned lighthouse. But the national chain that set up shop in their small North Carolina town of Pleasant Sands may be more than Heart of Christmas can survive.

Encouraged by her niece to ask Santa for help through the Dear Santa app, Angela gives in and lets the words fly in a way that, if Santa were real, would no doubt land her on the naughty list. What’s the harm when it’s just a computer-generated response?

Geoff Paisley has been at his mother’s side running the mega-chain Christmas Galore for the last ten years. When his mother falls ill, Geoff promises to answer the Dear Santa letters in her stead. Soon he realizes the woman he’s been corresponding with on Dear Santa is Angela. How could the woman that grates his every last nerve in person have intrigued him so deeply through those letters?

When Geoff reveals that he’s her Dear Santa, will Angela be able to set aside their very public feud to embrace the magic of the holiday and possibly find true love?

This is a retelling from the movie You've Got Mail. Set at Christmas time , a romance that is also like a Hallmark movie. I loved Angela and even though I didn't care for Geoff at first I got to really like the character and his mom. When you read about this town in NC all you want to do is pack your bags and go there. Although I would move anywhere there is a beach :-).

An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena

An Unwanted GuestAn Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

It's winter in the Catskills and Mitchell's Inn, nestled deep in the woods, is the perfect setting for a relaxing--maybe even romantic--weekend away. It boasts spacious old rooms with huge woodburning fireplaces, a well-stocked wine cellar, and opportunities for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or just curling up with a good murder mystery.

So when the weather takes a turn for the worse, and a blizzard cuts off the electricity--and all contact with the outside world--the guests settle in for the long haul.

Soon, though, one of the guests turns up dead--it looks like an accident. But when a second guest dies, they start to panic.

Within the snowed-in paradise, something--or someone--is picking off the guests one by one. And there's nothing they can do but hunker down and hope they can survive the storm.

My Thoughts:
This was hard to put down and I was trying to like all the characters and figure out if it is one of the guests or someone hiding out in the hotel. 3/4 of the way through I figured out who it was and I was right. But that's because I really paid attention to what was going on and who was where. The only person I did not like throughout the book was Henry. His wife was another person I wasn't fond of but I did understand where she was coming from. This was fast paced and an enjoyable read.
