Book Review: One and Only by Jenny Holiday

One and Only (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #1)

Miss Responsibility meets Mr. Reckless
With her bridezilla friend on a DIY project rampage, bridesmaid Jane Denning will do anything to escape - even if it means babysitting the groom's troublemaker brother before the wedding. It should be a piece of cake, except the "cake" is a sarcastic former soldier who is 100% wicked hotness and absolutely off-limits.

Cameron MacKinnon is ready to let loose after returning from his deployment. But first he'll have to sweet talk the ultra-responsible Jane into taking a walk on the wild side. Turns out, riling her up is the best time he's had in years. But what happens when the fun and games start to turn into something real?

                                   MY REVIEW:

One and Only (Bridesmaids Behaving Badly #1)One and Only by Jenny Holiday
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Jane is a bridesmaid for one of her best friends, who has turned into Bridezilla. So the bride told Jane she is on babysitting duty to her future BIL who is a troublemaker even though he is an adult. Cameron, as we find out, was blamed for things he didn't do or things he got into trouble for that he really shouldn't have. But people don't know that. Jane has always been miss responsibility so she is not sure what to expect but the heat between her and Cameron is hot. She had a long term relationship go bust and that was 5 years ago. She doesn't want the marriage or kids. Cameron was in a relationship that went south and he doesn't believe he is relationship material. But these 2 get together and end up on adventures and Jane does things she never thought she would. Loved the scenes between these 2. The Bridezilla on the other hand really expected a lot from the women in her bridal party and I felt she thought she was entitled. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will continue on with the series.

Book Review: Sin & Magic by K. F. Breene

Sin & Magic (Demigod of San Francisco #2)

I've agreed to work for a Demigod. My job? Find the spirit of his mother and release her before his vengeful father finds out and kills us all.

Have I lost my mind?

Thankfully, I don't have to do it alone. Kieran has brought in help: a Necromancer who loves to flirt with danger. Bria can help me find the clues to free Kieran's mom.

She can also help me learn my potent and extremely terrifying magic.

But as we work deeper into magical San Francisco, we uncover a minefield waiting to explode. I'm learning that there are far worse things than death.

                        MY REVIEW:

Sin & Magic (Demigod of San Francisco #2)Sin & Magic by K.F. Breene
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Lexie has a job for Kiernan, who is a demigod. She is to find the "skin" or spirit of his mother and release it before his dad finds out.
Lexie has 2 wards she is taking care of and they are teenagers. Who are acting like spoiled brats. But they all act like family and have each other back. There is a lot of sarcasm in this book and sometimes I kept shaking my head. I found it a little slow though and had a hard time to keep picking it up but once I got about 3/4 of the way in then it picked up for me.

Book review: Hardcore Twenty-Four by Janet Evanovich

Hardcore Twenty-Four (Stephanie Plum, #24)

Trouble comes in bunches for Stephanie Plum. First, professional grave robber and semi-professional loon, Simon Diggery, won’t let her take him in until she agrees to care for his boa constrictor, Ethel. Stephanie’s main qualification for babysitting an extremely large snake is that she owns a stun gun—whether that’s for use on the wandering serpent or the petrified neighbors remains to be seen.

Events take a dark turn when headless bodies start appearing across town. At first, it’s just corpses from a funeral home and the morgue that have had the heads removed. But when a homeless man is murdered and dumped behind a church Stephanie knows that she’s the only one with a prayer of catching this killer.

If all that’s not enough, Diesel’s back in town. The 6-foot-tall, blonde-haired hunk is a man who accepts no limits—that includes locked doors, closed windows and underwear. Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli isn’t pleased at this unexpected arrival nor is Ranger, the high-powered security consultant who has his own plans for Stephanie.

As usual Jersey’s favorite bounty hunter is stuck in the middle with more questions than answers. What’s the deal with Grandma Mazur’s latest online paramour? Who is behind the startling epidemic of mutilated corpses? And is the enigmatic Diesel’s sudden appearance a coincidence or the cause of recent deadly events?

                     MY REVIEW:

Hardcore Twenty-Four (Stephanie Plum, #24)Hardcore Twenty-Four by Janet Evanovich
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
What can I say? Another fun Stephanie Plum book. Stephanie is bounty hunter and she is trying to find grave robber, Simon, and when she does find him he has a Boa Constrictor named Ethel. So when she takes him into the police station she had to promise to take care of Ethel. Which she does. She shows up at his trailer every day with food and that turns into some hilarious times.
Now headless bodies are turning up and people are seeing zombies. I love a good ghost story and horror story but there is just something about Zombie stories I do not like and it isn't because they scare me or anything but because of all the hype about them and some times hearing in the news of people who actually believe in them. So I had to choke back reading this storyline but Janet Evanovich made it funny.
Then Diesel is back in town and just shows up in Stephanie's apartment and stays there. But when it doesn't look like he has been at the apartment for a few days then Stephanie gets worried and thinks he is into something bad.
Grandma Mazur has met a man online and decides she wants to go meet him despite what the family says.
So much going on but so many laughs.

MY REVIEW:

The Defender (Sons of Texas, #4)The Defender by Donna Grant

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Lev Ivanski works for a mob boss and is hired to take down a group called The Saints. He goes under cover and meets up with one of The Saints, Reyna Harris. she is an Ex-CIA operative but is working on the inside of The Saints to take them down. Now that her cover is blown she is on the run with Lev and we get to know them as they are trying to get back home. They have to steal cars, cell phones and boats just to get away and hide from The Saints. This book was filled with a lot of action and I have read other Donna Grant books but this felt different than her other ones and now I want to read the whole series. As Lev continues to contact his people back home we find out more about him and why is ruthless and trustworthy to his friends. Reyna just wants to get them safe and to destroy The Saints. Thinking one of them is on the inside of the mob that Lev works for.

Halloween Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery)

For Lucy Stone, Halloween in Tinker’s Cove, Maine, the treats aren’t just sweet and delicious. Sometimes they’re also deadly . . .

But a gruesome murder of Diana’s friend has Lucy Stone uncovering a deadly web of secrets—and a spine-chilling brush with the things that go bump in the night . . .

MY REVIEW:

Halloween Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery)Halloween Murder by Leslie Meier
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book has 2 books in 1. Both are Lucy Stone series.
Trick Or Treat Murder is set at Halloween time and there is an arsonist on the loose. I read this a long time ago so don't really remember to much about it.

Wicked Witch Murder I just read. Tinker's Cove has a witch in town and she owns a store. Diana Ravenscroft seems really nice but a family moves into town and the husband wants to drive her out. A friend of Diana's is found dead and Lucy wants to find out what happened. Lucy works as the local newspaper reporter and she always finds out things to put her in harm's way. Diana tries to teach some recipes that are like spells to Lucy's daughters. Then we find out that the new family has religious reasons why they don't want her there and the daughter starts hanging out with Diana.

Blog Tour: The Lemon Tree Hotel by Rosanna Ley

A story about love, family secrets, and a little piece of heaven . . .

In the beautiful village of Vernazza, the Mazzone family have transformed an old convent overlooking the glamorous Italian Riviera into the elegant Lemon Tree Hotel. For Chiara, her daughter Elene and her granddaughter Isabella, the running of their hotel is the driving force in their lives.
One day, two unexpected guests check in. The first, Dante, is a face from Chiara's past, but what exactly happened between them all those years ago, Elene wonders. Meanwhile, Isabella is preoccupied with the second guest, a mysterious young man who seems to know a lot about the history of the old convent and the people who live there. Isabella is determined to find out his true intentions and discover the secret past of the Lemon Tree Hotel.

                                  MY REVIEW:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The Lemon Tree Hotel has been in the Mazzone family for years. It is set in the village of Vernazza, Italy. When Chiara's parents pass away then she takes over the hotel and her, her daughter and granddaughter run the hotel. The hotel used to be an old covenant and everyone loves the history of it. 2 guests appear which shake some things up. Dante shows up and he was someone from Chiara's past who she never really got over. Then another young man shows up and the granddaughter starts hanging out with him and she likes him but he seems to have secrets that he just isn't willing to share.
We also see that things are not goo between Chiara and her daughter Elene. Both are kind of stand offish to each other and Elene and her husband would like to make some changes to the hotel but it seems that Cjhiara and her granddaughter Isabella don't want to make them. This also causes friction. Then we don't see much of Chiara's husband as he has his own business which keeps him away. I didn''t like him or trust him from the beginning. I kept wanting to smack Chiara and Elene because if these 2 actually spoke from their hearts then they might have had a great relationship for years.
I received this from NetGalley and Quercus for review.

Book Review: The Friend Zone by Amy Jimenez

The Friend Zone

Fall in love with this "deliciously hot, sweet" (L.J. Shen, USA Today bestselling author) romantic comedy perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Helen Hoang.

Kristen Petersen doesn't do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don't get her. She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.

Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen -- especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he'd be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it's harder and harder to keep him at arm's length.

The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart, and a lot of sass.

                                MY REVIEW:

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book has all the feels in it. From laughing to crying. Happy, sad and mad all rolled into 1 book. I kept putting off reading it because I didn't think I would like it. When I started reading it I didn't like the main character Kristen. She seemed like such a bitch but I ended up warming up to her. I have never had the issues she had but knowing me I would probably push the man away as well. Josh was so easy to like from the start,
Kristen has her own business making clothes and furniture for dogs. Because of her health it makes it easy to be home and her own hours. Josh is a hot fireman who moved to California after a bad breakup and to be around his best friend Brandon. Brandon and Sloan are getting married and Kristen is Sloan's best friend so it was great seeing the friendships in this book. The only thing that did irritate me a little bit was Kristen always turning Josh away but each chapter is told in different perspectives. Kristen and Josh take turns so you read what they are feeling and thinking, which made it more real.
Thanks to Forever and NetGalley for this book to review.

Book Review: Treachery In Death by J.D. Robb

Treachery in Death (In Death, #32)

Eve Dallas and her partner, Peabody, are following up on a brutal, senseless crime — an elderly grocery owner killed by three stoned punks for nothing more than kicks and snacks. And for the first time, Peabody is primary detective on the case, which means she has to get used to a new level of authority and responsibility. Good thing she learned the ropes from a master like Eve.

But after rounding up the perps, Peabody stumbles upon a much trickier situation. Determined to start working out as hard as she grills suspects, she chooses to do it at the old, rarely-used gym at Central. After a grueling workout, she squeezes into one of the narrow shower stalls, happy to have the place to herself. Just after she shuts the water off, the gym door clatters open — and while she cringes inside the stall, trying not to make a sound, Peabody overhears two fellow officers, Garnet and Oberman, arguing. References are made to delivering product, and a house in the islands, and someone named Keener who’s supposed to look like an OD. It doesn’t take long for a naked and vulnerable Peabody to realize that both officers are crooked — guilty not just of corruption but of murder as well. Fortunately, the two clear out of the locker room without realizing there was a witness.

Eve Dallas may have trained Peabody well — but this is too dangerous for one person to take on alone. Now Peabody, Eve, and her husband, Roarke, must try to get the hard evidence they need to bring the dirty cops down — knowing all the while that the two have already killed to keep their secret, and are no doubt willing to do it again.

                            MY REVIEW:

Treachery in Death (In Death, #32)Treachery in Death by J.D. Robb
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Dallas and Peabody start out at a store owned by an elderly couple. The man is murdered and the woman is beaten. She needs to find 2 stoned young men. After that goes down Peabody overhears 2 officers and realizes they are crooked. She hears their names as well and hopes they don't see her because she knows she will be dead. This goes deep in a precinct and it's up to Dallas and her team to take them down.

The noble Chan, her first boyfriend, who pretended to break up with her in order to secretly hunt for the Ring Alexandra needs to survive, is missing. Is he dead? Are they the lost Angels? Regardless who they are, Alexandra has five days to live. She must either wait for the Ring with the hope it will arrive before she dies, or finds and kill the Vangel, whoever he might be.

                                 MY REVIEW:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Alexandra and Chan had broken and she is moving on with her life. Alexandra goes back into her past and realizes she is supposed to kill the man she is in love with. I Like Alexandra but she sometimes is impulsive and immature but then again she is 18 and probably acting the way she should since everyone is still keeping secrets from her. She is still searching for the Vangel. Her Mom keeps making me mad. Alexandra wouldn't keep tricking people or searching for answers if she was just told the truth and had everything explained to her.

Book Review: The Seer by Tatenda Creed

The Seer (The Lost Archangels Series Book 1)

Supernatural collides with Mortal instruments and Vampire Diaries.

What if you wake up one day to find every fairy tale, nightmare or the romantic bedtime story you were told is more real than what you thought it was? You could be one of those beings you thought were most evil and frightening? And still be that girl who will find a love like no other.
Who really is Alexandra?
Protected from a world of angels, demons, vampires, and hybrids, Alexandra thinks knowing nothing about her father is the biggest of all the secrets her mother holds. Until she has an accident on her motorcycle.
Speed-loving Alexandra is paralyzed, then wakes up a few minutes later completely healed. It’s difficult for her to draw the truth out of her protective mother and to understand why she sees visions of angels. Somewhere out there, there’s a man they call the Vangel, who is both her foe and soulmate. Some say he wants Alexandra dead, but no one remembers his face.
Is he Alexandra’s current boyfriend, her maybe-next boyfriend, or someone she’s yet to meet?  The answer lies in her past, which she can’t know until she gets the Ring that will protect her from the fatal consequences of unveiling the truth. Will Alexandra be patient enough to wait? Or will her curiosity bring the world tumbling down?
The Agony of Love. We must all endure it.

The Seer is Book 1 of a seven-book series. Although this book's story is complete, it is not a standalone novel.  However, you won’t have to wait months or years to read the next book in the series. Each instalment is released every month or two. Begin with the Prequel, Lost Angels if you haven’t read it already.

                                 MY REVIEW:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Supernaturals, secrets, lies and so much more all in 1 book. Alexandra doesn't know what she is. Her mom won't tell her and all she keeps getting told is wait til you get the ring. Don't get in any accidents and break up with your boyfriend. Well the more secrets her mom keeps then the more Alexandra wants to know and digs into the supernatural world. She also wants to know who her father is. I really liked Alexandra and thought she acted appropriately for her age. Her mother on the other hand is so controlling that I kept throwing up my hands and yelling at her. She would blackmail her own daughter. If you don't so what I say then you can't have this and always using the words to obey me. Control FREAK!!!! If she had actually sat down from the beginning and said x, y z and what will and won't happen then Alexandra wouldn't have done some of the things she did. Her best friend tries to keep her out of trouble but also doesn't help keep her out of it lol. She had to break up with the boy she loved but then met new people and she also started to have visions. Can't wait to see where this story goes.
