Krampus:The Yule Lord by Brom review

Krampus: The Yule Lord

Set in Appalachia, Krampus the Yule Lord is a twisted fairytale about a failed West Virginia songwriter who gets ensnared on Christmas Eve in an eternal war between a not-so-saintly Saint Nick and his dark enemy Krampus, aka Black Peter, an ancient trickster demon. Krampus the Yule Lord is Gregory Maguire (Wicked) meets Susanna Clarke (Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell) in the realm of Guillermo Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth, as Clive Barker (Mr. B. Gone) works his dark sorcery from the shadows. Once again featuring Brom’s chillingly beautiful artwork throughout, Krampus the Yule Lord is a feast of wonder straight from the kitchen of Sweeney Todd.

My Thoughts
Krampus: The Yule LordKrampus: The Yule Lord by Brom
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This to me read as a folklore between Santa Clause and Krampus a demon. Santa Clause is not as nice as we know him to be and Krampus is out to destroy him and make people see him as the nice guy and to believe in Yule Tides. Very dark story and full of murder, drugs, lots of bad people. The main character Jesse has lot his wife and child to a bad cop, who Jesse wants to get his family away from.

The Liar's Room by Simon Lelic review

The Liar's Room
ONE ROOM. TWO LIARS. NO WAY OUT...
Susanna Fenton has a secret. Fourteen years ago she left her identity behind, reinventing herself as a counsellor and starting a new life. It was the only way to keep her daughter safe.
But everything changes when Adam Geraghty walks into her office. She's never met this young man before - so why does she feel like she knows him?
Then Adam starts to tell her about a girl. A girl he wants to hurt.
And Susanna realises she was wrong.
She doesn't know him.
BUT HE KNOWS HER.
AND THE GIRL HE PLANS TO HURT IS HER DAUGHTER...

My Thoughts:
The Liar's RoomThe Liar's Room by Simon Lelic
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Wow! What a messed up individual. Susanna is a counselor with a 14 year old daughter. Susanna made up a new identity while her daughter was a baby and never looked back. Then Adam walks into her life and tell her he wants to hurt a girl. Then proceeds to tell her a story, about her past. This was a thriller that I could not stop reading. I really wanted Susanna to walk away from this boy but then you know she really can't.

The Woman Inside by E. G. Scott review

The Woman Inside

Rebecca didn’t know love was possible until she met Paul, a successful, charismatic, married man with a past as dark as her own. Their pain drew them together with an irresistible magnetism; they sensed that they were each other’s ideal (and perhaps only) match.

But twenty years later, Paul and Rebecca are drowning as the damage and secrets that ignited their love begin to consume their marriage. Paul is cheating on Rebecca, and his affair gets messy fast. His mistress is stalking them with growing audacity when Rebecca discovers Paul’s elaborate plan to build a new life without her. And though Rebecca is spiraling into an opiate addiction, it doesn’t stop her from coming up with a devious plot of her own, and this one could end absolutely everything.

What follows is an unpredictable and stylish game of cat and mouse—a shocking tale of unfaithfulness and unreliability that will keep you racing until the final twist and make you wonder how well you really know your spouse.

My Thoughts:

The Woman InsideThe Woman Inside by E.G.   Scott
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I must say when I first started this book I was on the fence about it and thought should I even keep reading. The lies, betrayals, cheating and everything that is in a thriller is all there. What was Rebecca thinking? She had an affair with a married man and he left his wife for her. You know this from the beginning so why is she shocked that he would do that to her? Then the woman he is seeing is crazy loco. Her drug addiction makes her not see things right and some of this could have been different for her if she wasn't on them. Paranoia and delusional all makes a recipe for disaster. But the ending had me feeling so bad for the both of them. It just got to me.

Christmas in Whispering Pines by Scarlett Dunn review

Christmas in Whispering Pines (The Langtry Sisters Book 3)

On the heels of her blowout European tour, opera star Emma Langtry has returned home to Whispering Pines to spend time with her family. But she isn’t alone: a smitten French prince has followed her, determined to win her love. While Emma enjoys his company, marriage isn’t on her agenda. Then she meets the mysterious Clay Hunt . . .

Clay is the new pastor in Whispering Pines. Years ago, after a shattering loss, he left everything behind—including his faith—to seek revenge. Tormented by his actions, he’s now resolved to earn redemption, and has devoted himself to his parishioners. He believes he has nothing to give any woman, not even one as enticing and headstrong as Emma Langtry.

But when the Langtry sisters’ outlaw brother turns up, bringing danger in his wake, fate will bring Emma and Clay together—and once that happens, nothing will be able to tear them apart . .

My Thoughts:
Christmas in Whispering Pines (The Langtry Sisters Book 3)Christmas in Whispering Pines by Scarlett Dunn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
The story starts out with Clay's wife and son being murdered. Then years later he is in another town as the preacher. He has always wanted to know who killed his family and wants justice. We also Meet Emma who is a singer and on stage. Emma and Clay meet and sparks fly. I had to laugh at some of their antics, well mostly hers. Emma has a dog who never leaves her side but the dog, Sweetie is quite fond of Clay and Emm calls Sweetie a traitor. While all this is is going on we have bank robbers and murderers running a round. This is set in the 1800s and is also a western. I thoroughly enjoyed Clay, Emma, Granny and the whole gang and how they stick together even to bring down one of their own.

Christmas on Cape Cod by Nan Rossiter review

Christmas in Cape Cod
With Christmas just around the corner, Asa Coleman has his hands full keeping up with his young son Noah’s rambunctious spirit. Whether he’s playing Santa or keeping a furry surprise under wraps, the joy Asa feels in Noah’s delight is all he could ask for as a single father. His best friend Maddie Carlson has been more than helpful throughout the season’s sometimes overwhelming rush of activities, and she can’t help but see how well she fits into their lives. But as always, something holds Asa back from accepting the happiness he deserves. Except this year, when it’s time to open gifts, something special might surprise them all . . .

My thoughts:
Christmas in Cape CodChristmas in Cape Cod by Nan Rossiter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is a short novella and I did love the story of Asa and his son and surprising him on Christmas and Asa's friend Maddie joining Asa, Noah and Asa's parents for Christmas. You can feel the love of everyone and how Asa and Maddie both really have feelings for each other. I just wanted more character development on Asa's past with Noah's mom and his other dad. This house sounded like a perfect scene for Christmas.

Murder In Her Stocking by G.A. McKevett review

Murder in Her Stocking (A Granny Reid Mystery, #1)Murder in Her Stocking by G.A. McKevett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I absolutely loved this book. I can not wait for the next one. This is a story of a 50+Grandma taking care of her 6 grandchildren because their mom is a drunk and their dad would rather stay away than come home and raise them. This Grandma is no nonsense but also loves them with all her heart. To teach them values and wrong from right and there are consequences and they love her in return. There is a part at the beginning when her grandson had me laughing so hard because of something that a man had said to Stella in front of the kids. Also there is a murder and Stella helps the sheriff solve it. Also Stella's best friend and neighbor is dealing with an abusive husband. I could not stop reading this.

Naughty But Nice by Donna Kaufmann review

Naughty but Nice (A Hamilton Christmas Novella)
Businessman Griffin’s never believed in luck . . . until sassy-sweet small-town baker Melody turns his world around. Except there’s a catch: There’s no way he’ll be able to build his empire and hold on to her. This new love could destroy all his dreams—or make this Christmas better than he ever imagined possible . . .

Originally in the The Naughty List anthology

My Thoughts:

Naughty but Nice (A Hamilton Christmas Novella)Naughty but Nice by Donna Kauffman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I wasn't to thrilled with this book. It is supposed to be a Christmas novella but there really wasn't anything Christmassy about it. There was no dialect between the town people. Just Griffin and Melody except for right at the beginning and right at the end. All we have is these 2 telling each other about their plans and the next thing we know they are in bed together and then you get told a few things that happened at Thanksgiving and a few things until Christmas and then it is 4 years later. There was no connection for me at all.

How the Grinch Stole My Heart by Annabelle Costa review

How the Grinch Stole My Heart
Single mom Noelle can’t stand her crotchety next-door neighbor.

She’s never met the man in person, but Mr. Grieder, a.k.a. Mr. Grinch, leaves her nasty notes whenever her son plays in the hallway. He complained until their doorman got rid of the beautiful Christmas tree in the lobby. He even slammed his door on the Girl Scout Carolers. This is Noelle’s first Christmas since a painful divorce, and this grouchy old hermit seems determined to make her favorite holiday as unpleasant as he possibly can.

Except there are two things Noelle doesn’t know about Mr. Grinch:

One, he’s not an old man.

And two, he’s going to be her date for Saturday night.

My Thoughts:

How the Grinch Stole My HeartHow the Grinch Stole My Heart by Annabelle Costa
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Jeremy is known as The Grinch. He had a stroke 6 years ago on Christmas. His wife left him and that is how the story starts. Now it is 6 years later and he lives by himself in an apartment. One day a he keeps hearing a thump in the hallway. It is a boy that lives down the hall and throwing a ball against the hallway wall. They have words. Noelle is a single mom and not looking forward to Christmas as she is now divorced. She is upset that there is a Grinch for a neighbor. How these 2 meet u and not realize they are neighbors is funny. She finds him hot and he finds her sexy. She doesn't seem to care that he has mobility issues. I loved the banter between Jeremy and Noelle. Plus Jeremy comes across as a bad guy to some people and then a nice person to others.

The Trouble With Christmas by Debbie Mason review

The Trouble with Christmas (Christmas, Colorado, #1)
Resort developer Madison Lane is about to lose the one thing she loves most in the world—her job. Dubbed "The Grinch Who Killed Christmas," Madison spoiled a deal that would turn quaint Christmas, Colorado, into a tourist's winter wonderland. Now the citizens want her fired but the company gives her one last chance, sending Madison to the small town to restore the holiday cheer.

For Sheriff Gage McBride, no hotshot executive from New York City is going to destroy the dreams of the people he loves. But one look at this beautiful woman and it's his heart that may be broken. In just a few days, Madison causes more trouble than he's had to deal with all year. He can't decide if she's naughty or nice, but one thing is for certain—Christmas will never be the same again...

My Thoughts:
The Trouble with Christmas (Christmas, Colorado, #1)The Trouble with Christmas by Debbie Mason
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Madison is asked to help the town Christmas put in a resort but after she does all the figures she says it isn't worth it for the company she works for. They have called her The Grinch. Her boss sends her to Christmas to see what can be done. She wants them to change their mind and tell them why it is a bad idea to put in a resort and show her boss why it is a bad idea. But her boss's nephew wants to put it in and seems to be holding everything back from her and making her look bad. She meets the sheriff and his family, including his Aunt Nell who likes to meddle in everything. There seems to be a newspaper reporter always taking her pics in compromising positions. One thing happens which keeps her there longer than she wants to be and before show knows it she is falling in love with the town and the people in it. Now she wants the business owners to come up with a plan to being them more business without the resort being built. Plus she starts having feelings for the sheriff.

Christmas on Mistletoe Lane by Anne Raines review

Christmas on Mistletoe Lane (Sweetwater Springs, #1)Christmas is coming to the North Carolina mountains, and the air is fresh and crisp and filled with promise. After the devastating loss of her job in the big city, the small town of Sweetwater Springs feels like heaven to Kaitlyn Russo. She's inherited her grandparents' charming (if a little rundown) bed and breakfast, and it's just the new lease on life she needs. Only "heaven" comes with a catch-and a handsome and completelyinfuriating one at that.

After what he hopes will be a quick trip, Mitch Hargrove wants nothing more than to put his hometown in the rearview mirror. But his plans get derailed when he learns he's now half-owner of the Sweetwater B&B. The fact that he's given only two months to make the inn a success is a huge problem, but it's his pretty-and incredibly headstrong-partner who's the real challenge. With the holiday fast approaching and a grand re-opening looming, will Mitch keep running from the ghosts of Christmas past . . . or will he realize the true gift he's been given?

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Kaitlyn inherited her Grandmother's B & B. But only to find out that Mitch also inherited half of it. Kaitlyn is excited to get the B & B up and running since she just lost her job. Mitch wants nothing to do with it. They have to get it up and running together by so many days and then one can buy out the other half's share. Or sell the property now. The Grandmother seems to be a little bit of a matchmaker and even beyond the grave she knew what she was doing making these 2 work together. I really enjoyed both of them and how they turned a beat up B&B into something special.

Something Hidden by Kerry Wilkinson review

Something Hidden: A totally unputdownable murder mystery novel (Andrew Hunter Book 2) by [Wilkinson, Kerry]

Everyone hates Fiona Methodist.
Her war veteran father shot a young couple in broad daylight before killing himself. The engaged pair had witnessed a robbery and were due to give evidence but, with all three now dead, no one knows the true motive.
For Fiona, it's destroyed her life. It's not just those who whisper behind her back or the friends who pretend she doesn't exist; it's the landlords who spot her name and say no, the job agencies who can't find her work.
But Fiona knows her dad didn't do it. He couldn't have - he's her father and he wouldn't do that . . . would he?
Private investigator Andrew Hunter takes pity on the girl and, even with stolen bengal cats to find, plus an ex-wife who's not quite so 'ex', he can't escape the creeping feeling that Fiona might be right after all.

My thoughts:
Something Hidden: A totally unputdownable murder mystery novel (Andrew Hunter Book 2) by [Wilkinson, Kerry]
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
2nd book of the series. We get to know Andrew Hunter better and his employee. Andrew's relationship with his ex looks like it might be back on again. Andrew is hired by a young woman to find out if her father murdered 2 college kids. ANdrew then gets sucked into a world he doesn't want to be in. Andrew seems like to much of a wimp to be a PI. Doesn't carry a gun and doesn't seem to have the body or brains. The way this book ended though you will want to read the next book because a clue is given to him about his employee.

Something Wicked by Kerry Wilkinson review

Something Wicked (Andrew Hunter #1)On his eighteenth birthday, Elaine Carr’s son Nicholas disappeared in the woods near his home. He hasn’t been seen since.

Now, nearly a year later, private investigator Andrew Hunter is on the case and convinced that Nicholas remains alive – but in grave danger. He asks the teenager’s former girlfriend for help, but she’s defensive and cagey, and hiding a curious tattoo on her wrist.

When Andrew discovers a mysterious book in the missing boy’s bedroom, he begins to uncover the secrets Nicholas was keeping in the months leading up to his disappearance. But Andrew is forced to ask his ex-wife, Keira – the woman he still loves – to help him finally understand the book, and to discover exactly what happened to Nicholas all those months ago…

Can Andrew find Nicholas alive, or is he already too late to save him?

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Nicholas Carr disappeared on his 18th birthday. The cop searched for 9 months only to find 3 of his fingers. So his parents, Richard and Elaine, hire Andrew Hunter, investigator to find out what happened. Meanwhile Andrew is also hired by a woman to find out where her husband has been going at night.
We also get to know a little bit of Andrew's employee. She is a little weird but I like her. We also know that Andrew has an ex wife and we get to meet her and also find out what happened between them. So this book sets you up a little bit to get to know the characters for the rest of the series while also investigating. There is a lot of weirdness going on and looks like maybe some magic thrown in.

About EVERBOUND:

To live in the light, they hunt in the dark…

The power of Helena’s magic has made her a target for the Coven. She wanted no part in the war of the witches, but it’s out of her hands now. She has to make a stand – and she does that by helping the Hunters and their allies against their common enemy. And now, the witch who ripped Helena’s future apart is coming. Sybbyl’s vengeance is swift and terrible, pitting the two against each other. But Helena doesn’t have to fight the Coven alone. A seductive warlock offers his aid. Helena is hesitant to give her trust to him – because it’s more than her life on the line. It’s her heart as well.

As the most feared and respected warrior of the Varroki, Jarin is used to being on his own. But with the Coven’s quest to locate the bones of the First Witch escalating, he finds it increasingly difficult to retain his solitary existence. When Jarin encounters Helena, he is helpless to resist her. She’s everything he didn’t know he wanted, and with her help, he’s convinced that maybe his people can finally defeat their foe. But there’s so much more at play than they know―ties in blood and sacrifice―and the loss that’s sure to follow may be greater than any of them can bear.

My thoughts: 4 stars

Everbound is the 3rd book in The Kindred series. I did not realize that but it didn't feel like it. It did end knowing that there will be another book. This is a Paranormal Romance and I loved the relationship between Jarin and Helena. Also Helena meeting everyone else and fighting the bad witch.
