About CIPHER:

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Larissa Ione comes a new story in her Demonica Underworld series…

It’s been seven months since Cipher, an Unfallen angel who straddled a razor thin line between good and evil, woke up in hell with a new set of wings, a wicked pair of fangs, and a handler who’s as beautiful as she is dangerous. As a laid-back cyber-specialist who once assisted guardian angels, he’d been in a prime position to earn back his halo. But now, as a True Fallen forced to use his talents for malevolence, he must fight not only his captors and his sexy handler, but the growing corruption inside him…before the friends searching for him become his enemies and he becomes his own worst nightmare.

Lyre is a fallen angel with a heart full of hate. When she’s assigned to ensure that Cipher carries out their boss’s orders, she sees an opportunity to take revenge on those who wronged her. All she has to do is appeal to Cipher’s burgeoning dark side. But the devastatingly handsome fellow True Fallen has other ideas — sexy ideas that threaten to derail all Lyre’s plans and put them in the path of an approaching hell storm.

Danger and desire explode, even as Cipher and Lyre unravel a sinister plot that will fracture the underworld and send shockwaves into Heaven itself…

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do. **

“Ione has made a major name for herself with her amazing Demonica series.”

EXCERPT :

Cipher threw out a hand to warn Lyre off. His control sucked, which he proved as a fireball shot at her from the palm of his hand.

Fire engulfed her, demon-faced flames that laughed and bit at her. No! Oh, shit. He felt her screams all the way to his gut as she fell to the ground and writhed in violent agony,

Soretay! Stop!” He yelled commands in Sheoulic as he rushed toward her, but his words were useless.

He dove on top of her, covering her with his body. He tried to wrap his ugly-ass wings around her, but the fuckers didn’t behave, instead fanning the flames, beating the both of them as they flapped uselessly.

Then, for no reason he could figure out, the shrieking apparitions flickered out. Lyre went limp beneath him, her exhausted, panting breaths puffing hot air against his neck.

“Wow,” she rasped. “That was unexpected.”

He pushed himself up on one arm and looked down at her. Scorch marks streaked her face and her clothes were singed. The hemline of her shirt was completely gone, leaving her flat belly exposed, a smudge of soot forming a crescent under her navel.

He wanted to clean it off with his tongue. Too bad she was playing for the wrong team.

You’re playing for the same team now.

No he wasn’t. He might be a fallen angel, but not by choice. And, until evil took him over completely, he wasn’t in league with them yet. And he’d never play for Bael the Seriously Unstable. Right now he had no choice, but once he figured out these new powers, he was going to get the fuck out of here.

“You can let me up anytime now,” Lyre said softly. “Preferably before one of your new powers incinerates or melts me.”

“Right.” He jumped up and offered her a hand.

“Thanks, but no.” Eyeing his hand like it was a viper, she pushed to her feet and backed away from him.. “I’m just going to watch from…over there.” She pointed to a bluff in the distance. The far distance.

It was probably for the best. With little to lose, he was going to test his limits and push his boundaries.

And boundaries? Well, those were something he’d never believed in, and for once, that little personality flaw was going to work for him instead of against him.

Book Review: Kiss Me in Christmas by Debbie Mason

Kiss Me in Christmas (Christmas, Colorado Series, Book 6)

It's always been you...

Actress Chloe O'Connor has become America's sweetheart, but back in little Christmas, Colorado, she's still remembered as a shy, awkward schoolgirl. And there's no one she dreads (and secretly wants) to see more than her high school crush, Easton McBride. Just one look from the former star quarterback and it's like she's instantly transformed from daytime drama queen to tongue-tied teenager. She's kissed Hollywood actors and famous cover models, so she can certainly play it cool while turning up the heat, right?

After an injury ended his military career, Easton McBride built a good life in the rugged countryside of his hometown. And the last thing he needs is his quiet solitude shattered by a high-maintenance temptress who isn't anything like the sweet Chloe he misses. While he enjoys the flirtation with this new bold and beautiful woman, he can't help but wonder whether a kiss could have the power to bring back the small-town girl he's grown to love.

                              MY REVIEW:

Kiss Me in Christmas (Christmas, Colorado Series, Book 6)Kiss Me in Christmas by Debbie Mason
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This is the 6th book of the series and my least favorite. I did not care for the 2 sisters, Chloe and Cat. They acted more like spoiled teenagers than adults. And the 2 brothers they were with should have been smacked upside the head as well. All the other books I loved the brothers and the family dynamics and the women that they fell in love with. I don't know what it was about these women but they just were not right for them. Also for someone who has anxiety I thought it was very wrong of them to not understand where Chloe was coming from not wanting anything to do with her old high school and to force her into a situation she was not comfortable with. No I wasn't bullied in high school but after reading so many books and watching the news, I felt it was totally wrong for no one to understand Chloe's feelings and to tell her to grow up was totally wrong.

Book Review: The Killer In Me by Olivia Kiernan

The Killer in Me (Frankie Sheehan, #2)

A deadly past refuses to stay buried in Olivia Kiernan's masterful new novel

Death is no stranger to Detective Chief Superintendent Frankie Sheehan, but she isn't the only one from her small, coastal suburb to be intimately acquainted with it. Years ago, teenager Sen Hennessey shocked the tight-knit community when he was convicted of the brutal murder of his parents and attempted slaying of his sister, though he always maintained his innocence. Now, Sen is finally being released from prison--but when his newfound freedom coincides with the discovery of two bodies, the alleged connection between the cases only serves to pull Frankie further from answers even as it draws her closer to her town's hidden darkness. With a television documentary revisiting Sen's sentence pushing the public's sympathies into conflict on a weekly basis, a rabid media pressuring the police like never before, and a rising body count, Frankie will need all of her resources if she is not only to catch a killer, but put to rest what really happened all those years ago.

A dark, irresistible cocktail of secrets, murder, and family, Olivia Kiernan's latest is an impossible-to-put-down triumph.

                        MY REVIEW:

The Killer in Me (Frankie Sheehan, #2)The Killer in Me by Olivia Kiernan
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I had a hard time getting into this book and keeping my interest. So many characters and who did what and trying to figure out if there is more than 1 case going on with different killers. Years ago teenager Sean Hennessy is found guilty of killing his parents and leaving his sister for dead. He is just released and now a couple is found dead in a church and another man who was a reporter is also found dead. So did Sean do it? And where is his sister? The police bring in several suspects and but then lead into dead ends. I didn't trust Sean from the beginning but he kept saying he didn't do it and is believable. But is he? By the time I got to the end I didn't really care.

Book Review: Sin & Chocolate by K. F. Breene

Sin & Chocolate (Demigod of San Francisco, #1)

Some people are ordained for greatness…

Those people usually have a lot of drama in their life. Drama I happily do without. I live in a forgotten corner of nowhere for a reason: there is safety in anonymity. I have enough problems just trying to get by.

But when Kieran, a sinfully sexy demigod at the pinnacle of power, crashes into my life, suddenly my whole world is turned upside down.

He’s harboring a deadly secret, one that could destroy all he holds dear. He thinks I’m the key to his salvation, and he wants me to help him claim vengeance.

He also wants me with a passion that burns my body from the inside out.

To ignore him is impossible, but to give in to my desires, even for a night, would thrust me into danger I might not survive.

Remember what I said about drama? Now I’m in it up to my eyeballs, and I’m not sure if I should run...or fight.

                                    MY REVIEW:

Sin & Chocolate (Demigod of San Francisco, #1)Sin & Chocolate by K.F. Breene
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
So we start out in a funny situation with Lexie looking at a Burberry and knowing she can't afford it and there is a struggle with other women, which had me laugh out loud. Then she meets Kieran, a demigod, only she doesn't know he is. She knows nothing about him as he becomes a stalker. Lexie is a Ghost Whisperer but has powers she doesn't know about. She is taking care of 2 teenagers and they live poorly but Kieran can give her everything. Her and the kids don't trust him. Mordecai, is one of the teenagers, and is a shifter, who is very sick.Daisy is the other teenager that Lexie takes care of and seem street smart. This story is full of magic and non magic. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and will continue on with the series. Lexie will do anything to keep the kids safe and you can see the love they all have for each other.

Book Review: Bombshell by Catherine Coulter

Bombshell (FBI Thriller, #17)

FBI Special Agent Griffin Hammersmith, last seen in Backfire, has been recruited by Dillon Savich to join his unit in Washington, D.C. Savich sees something special in Hammersmith, an almost preternatural instinct for tracking criminals.

While on his way to D.C., Hammersmith plans to visit his sister, Delsey, a student at Stanislaus School of Music in Maestro, Virginia. Before he arrives, he gets a phone call that Delsey was found naked, unconscious, and covered with blood after a wild party. The blood isn't hers—so who does it belong to?

Meanwhile, back in D.C., Savich and Sherlock have their hands full when the grandson of former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank is found murdered, every bone in his body broken, and frozen at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial.

Was Savich right—is Griffin gifted with a unique ability to "see" how criminals think? And will he figure out who was behind the attempt on Delsey's life—before it's too late?

                                 MY REVIEW:

Bombshell (FBI Thriller, #17)Bombshell by Catherine Coulter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Special Agent Griffin Hammersmith plans on visiting his sister while joining the FBI unit run by Dillon Savich. His sister, Delsey, is a music student, and while on the way there finds out she was found in her apartment, naked and unconscious. She had come from a party early because she wasn't feeling well.
While that is going on Savich and his wife Sherlock are investigating the death of the grandson of a former Chairman of a bank.
We also meet Anna, who is Delsey's best friend. She seemed to be acting weird at the hospital. Her emotions change in a blink of an eye.
The music professors also seem to be under suspsicion as we get to know them as well. I loved the chemistry between Anna and Griffin and have a feeling we will see more of them in the next books in the series. This is #17 and it has been many years since I have picked up one of these books but once I got into reading it I started remembering everyone.

Book Review: Alex Cross, Run by James Patterson

Alex Cross, Run (Alex Cross, #20)

Kill Alex Cross was "Patterson at the top of his game" (Washington Post). Alex Cross, Run is even better. DON'T LOOK, ALEX CROSS Top plastic surgeon Elijah Creem is renowned for his skills in the operating room, and for his wild, no-expense-spared "industry parties," bringing in underage exotic dancers and models for nights of drugs, champagne, and uninhibited sex. That is, until Detective Alex Cross busts one of Creem's lavish soirees and ruins his fun. Now Creem is willing to do anything to avoid going to jail. DON'T THINK, ALEX CROSS But Alex doesn't have time to dwell on that case. A beautiful woman has been found murdered in her car, a lock of her hair viciously ripped off. Then a second woman is found hanging from a sixth-floor window with a brutal scar slashed across her stomach. When a third mutilated body is discovered, rumors of three serial killers on the loose send Washington D.C. into an all-out frenzy. JUST RUN Alex is under so much pressure to solve these three grim cases that he hasn't noticed that someone else investigating him-someone so obsessed and so twisted that they'll do anything-ANYTHING- to get the vengeance they require. Alex Cross, Run is James Patterson's most unrelenting story yet-a white-hot, sensational thrill ride with the most extreme and gripping characters Patterson has ever brought to life.

                                   MY REVIEW:

Alex Cross, Run (Alex Cross, #20)Alex Cross, Run by James Patterson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Alex Cross had taken down Top Plastic Surgeon Elijah Creem for his wild parties and ruins his life. But Elijah is not done and what he does next will make you shudder. There are several men and women, including teenagers found murdered. So now the police think 3 serial killers on the loose. Meantime Alex and his family had taken in a young girl in the foster program. But she is starting to act out. Also someone is out for revenge on Alex and has a blog making him look like a bad cop, All of this going on in 1 book made this a very interesting read and very hard to put down. Even though there are 400 pages, the font is a good size and the chapters are short so you feel like you are moving right along at a good pace. I love this series and am continuing on with it.

An absolutely unputdownable crime thriller that will have you up all night! If you love Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni or Rachel Caine you’re guaranteed to be hooked from page one.

MY REVIEW:

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This book had so much going on but I could keep up with it. It starts out with the death of Colette. She is the mother of Detective Quinn's boyfriend. Things go all wrong after that. Josie finds something in Colette's house which turns her into full detective mode and starts enquiries into missing people and things from a long time ago. But it also put Josie's and Noah's relationship on hold and it is strained to the max. Then Noah's sister is mean to Josie and treating her like a pariah and Noah as a child. I really liked how Josie and her team worked together even if they didn't always agree with her but they still respected each other. AT first I did not like their boss Chitwood. But then I realized his bark was much worse than his bite. The only person I did not like was Laura, Noah's sister. I am not sure if it was her real personality or her pregnancy hormones making her into a witch. I also wasn't always happy with the way Hoah treated Josie but then again I think it was mostly his grief talking.

Hard Loving Cowboy (Crossroads Ranch, #3)Hard Loving Cowboy by A.J. Pine
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is the last book of this series and we got to know the youngest brother in this book. Walker starts out in a bar being thrown out of a window or fell out. He is so drunk he feels nothing and needs to go to the hospital. His family and the sheriff, who is a friend, tell him he has to go to rehab. Now that he is out, he also can not be in a relationship for 6 months. Then he meets Violet. Now Walker has never been a settle down type of guy. More of a one night stand type of guy. But Violet throws him for a loop. She is hired to work on his families winery and she becomes friends with his family. There is also the wedding coming up of Jake that is from the first book of this series.
Violet has Walker stand in as a boyfriend with her parents. But he has not told her he is an alcoholic and about his past. Will things stay between them once she finds out?

Exclusive Excerpt:

My happy puppy greets me as soon as I slip inside the house, the air conditioning a welcome reprieve from the heat outside. I bend down and give her a quick pet behind the ears before leading her to the back door. She runs off, anxious to do her business, while I head back inside to take a quick shower.

I don’t wash my hair, but shave and exfoliate all of the important areas. When I’m smooth and clean, I jump out of the shower, anxious to head over to Latham’s. I smother lotion over every square inch of my body, the rich scents of jasmine and vanilla wrapping around me. I touch up my makeup, darkening my eyes in that sultry way I used to do daily, but now save for special occasions.

Then, I head for my dresser. I already know which one I want. After spending a few minutes with Adrian and feeling the anticipation she was experiencing, I dig out my own black bustier and matching thong set. Mine is an older style, though, with deep red piping and a black lace overlay. Carefully, I snap the back and glance in the mirror. It dips dangerously low, showcasing my cleavage and pushing my breasts together magnificently. The lace thong is sexy, enticing, and bold. Perfect.

I snap the garter belt into place and roll on a pair of stockings. Then, I return to my closet and find my dark blue sundress. It’s shorter than the others and will barely hide the stockings that hit just above mid-thigh. It too will be perfect. Keeping my hair up, I retwist it into a knot, letting only a few tendrils of hair hang around my face.

Taking one last look in the mirror, I slip on my too-high strappy sandals, swipe dark gloss over my lips, and head out of my room. I make a quick pit stop at the back door and call Snuggles. She’s not too happy to be coming in from outside, but when I produce a treat from the cabinet, she hightails it out of her doghouse and trots up the back steps like her tail is on fire. It wags furiously as she sits like a good girl and shakes for her treat. After a few more minutes of showering her with affection, I fill her food and water bowls, and make sure she’s settled for the evening.

Then, I head back to my car.

It’s only a few blocks from downtown where my business is, and even though I try to keep the windows open to enjoy the early evening breeze, it’s just too hot outside, or maybe I’m a little too nervous. Too sweaty. So I roll up the windows and crank on the air. As soon as I do, I hear a poof sound, and it’s suddenly raining.

Not liquid, though.

This is sparkly particles of hell flying through the air and landing everywhere.

Everywhere.

Glitter.

So. Much. Glitter.

I stop at the stop sign, spitting the sliver sparkles from my mouth and glance around. My entire car is covered in it. My dress. My arms. My face.

Dirty rotten bastard, son of the devil asshole jerk!

He’s. So. Fucking. Dead.
