June Stitching Bloggers Question

From Lake Stitchers Blog

So many great things happen in the month of June. Graduations, lots of weddings, the First Day of Summer (for those of us in the northern hemisphere, anyway). Flag Day in the U.S. and St. Jean Baptiste Day for our Canadian friends. And for many of us, the third Sunday in June is Father’s Day and it’s a pretty big deal. We celebrate our fathers, or we remember our fathers or we try to treat our children’s fathers to a special day. So I decided that this month’s SBQ was going to have fathers in it in some way.

And here we go:

Tell us about something that you have stitched or plan to stitch for any father in your life. Maybe it’s for your father, your father-in-law, your children’s father, your grandfather, your godfather, or someone who was or still is an important father-figure in your life. Why did you choose this particular piece of stitching? Tell us the story behind it.

I don't have any plans to stitch anything for Father's Day. I am so busy with graduation and birthday parties and have been in a stitching slump.

And because a simple one part question is never adequate, let’s go some more:

Often times we identify our love of needlework and our skills with our mothers or grandmothers or other women. It’s understandable because often they were are first teachers or role models. Now let’s think about our stitching life as it relates to our dads. Is there anything about our approach to stitching that we can recognize as traits of our fathers? For instance, does your dad (or any other important man in your life) have an approach to one of his interests that you can observe and think, “Hey….if I substitute the word “needlework” for “fly fishing”, we’d be pretty darn similar!” So tell us about it.

Actually my dad used to do leatherwork on purses, wallets, belts, etc. So he had many tools for his projects. He also was into oil painting for a few years. I don't know why he stopped doing any of it unless it is because his arthritis made it hard to stand and do things. He also was an avid deer hunter and a fisherman. He spent a lot of time doing his hobbies like I do with mine.

Page 1 is finished

I finally finished the first page. I also started the 2nd page. My goal was to finish it by the end of the month because I am starting the new SAL July 1. Oh well.

HAED little bit of progress

I stitched a little bit here and there all weekend, on HAED SK Mermaid of the Deep. I am getting there slowly. I watched quite a few episodes of General Hospital on the DVR. I am still about 2 weeks behind.
Tonight was the new season of True Blood on HBO. Anyone watch it? Pretty good show.

I don't think I will get any stitching time in. I have my book crossing meeting and when I get home I will either read or *gasp* play Sims3.
Yes I played that quite a bit this weekend as well.

I did go to Party City and bought things for Dylan's grad party. We are combining it with my sister's 40th birthday. So I ended up buying decorations for both. It is on July 4th and is a pig roast and a crock pot full of sloppy joes. I ordered the cake today and I rented a tent for that day so have to mail out the check for that. Then I just have to buy the buns for the joes , pop, and chips. Family and close friends are bringing their own drinks and a dish to pass. I hope that the weather cooperates and that some of Dylan's friends come.

Well off to facebook before going to bed.

Thanks for those who read my blog and who leave comments.

HAED stitching and 24 finale

Friday night I stitched on a RR so no pics.
Yesterday I pulled out HAED SK Mermaid of the Deep and watched 24's episodes from 5/10 and 5/17
Today I pulled out the HAED and watched the finale of 24 and cried at the end. This is it, no more after 8 seasons of what has kept me on the edge of my seat. I know that a movie is in the makings and can't wait to see it when it comes out.

Anyways when I wasn't stitching I was playing Sims3. But there is a picture below of some more progress.

sorry I have been MIA

I have been missing and wanted to check in. I have been busy with Dylan (18 year old son). He got accepted at UTI in Exton, PA and will be moving there in September. His prom was a few weeks ago and graduation is June 27. Plus my car broke and was going to cost to much money and after 2 weeks of car shopping I found one that I love. I haven't stitched in a few weeks because of all this plus playing Sims3 non stop. I am trying to get back into a routine again.

So the '99 Cougar is for sale and I bought a 2007 Scion tC. Has a moon roof, spoiler and is Black Cherry Pearl. Very pretty and very fun to drive. I still have to take pics to post. I also will post pics of Dylan's prom.

Tonight was the first time in about a month that I sat and stitched. It is for a RR so no pics but hey at least I stitched on something.
I also watched the season finales of The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. They were on the DVR. I still have to watch Smallville and 24. I may do that tomorrow night while doing a SAT (stitch a thon)

I promise to TRY and post more often. I have a LOT of reading of blogs to do and may just have to skim through them til I am caught up. I will read them all though. Supposed to rain most of the weekend so that will be a good idea for the weekend.

Well now that I have done everything that I planned on I can play Sims3 for the rest of the night :-)

May Stitching Bloggers question

Lee of Lake Stitcher is going to post a question on the first Monday of the month for all stitchers. So I am putting the question here as well. I will give my answer and let her know that I have done so.

May Question:

Suppose we say that there are two types of stitchers.

There are those who enjoy the “process” of stitching. They stitch for stitching’s sake and if something gets finished, so much the better, but it’s not necessarily the end goal. Primarily, it’s the application of needle and thread to cloth that makes them happiest.

Then there are those who are “project” stitchers. They move steadily through their projects, certainly enjoying their stitching time, but finding their greatest joy in the completed stitching.

If you had to pick one to describe yourself, which type of stitcher would you be? I imagine that we could all say that we fall somewhere in between, but really think hard about this and try to pick just one. And once you’ve decided whether you’re a Process or Project stitcher, tell us if your recognize that approach in other parts of your life.

I would have to say that I am a little of both. I start a project with the intention of finishing. Sometimes I get bored with it so then it turns I am a process stitcher. I pull it out just to put in a couple of stitches. I also like t o clean the house to get it done til next time and then sometimes just to get the worse of it out of the way.
